I still have you ll in my prayers... take care |
How is everything going Steve? Hope thing are getting back to normal...:) |
Just found your thread. So sorry to hear what happened to your in laws, I am glad they are as ok as they are considering what happened. Also wish little Basil a speedy recovery. |
Hi Steve I hope things are easing up for you. Sending good thoughts and prayer for your in laws and for little Basil. |
All are on the long road to recovery. In-Laws seem to be doing a bit better emotionally and physically. Basil is getting around fine, but he hates being confined and limited, and he is not afraid to let you know it. Still no word from the police if they caught the 2 guys. if and when they do, I wish they would call me and give me some time with them to administer some old fashioned Marine Corps justice. |
It's bad enough when the criminally minded commit crimes, but when they are comitted against the eldery....that just horrific. Glad the family is on the mend.... |
Glad to hear everyone is doing better... it does take time. I would also suggest an alarm company, like ADT who does monitoring. The units come with many tricks and programs... like you set it to get a response from you at any given time, if there is no response, a silent alarm will sound and the company calls the house. If you do not answer, police are sent. If you answer, and forget your password, police are sent, if you give the wrong password intentionally, police are sent. The operators are extremely discrete. "Do you need help?" No we're fine (lie). "Okay, just to verify, what is your password?" Bugs (another lie)."Okay, thank you and have a good evening." They call the police to respond silently to the address. If you can get to the unit, there's a few ways to sound a silent alarm... like keying in the wrong code to turn the unit on or off. The alarm does not sound in the house, only at the police or monitoring station. Some come with a battery operated remote that you can carry with you. And the fees are extremely reasonable... At the very least, get the yard signs that warn a system is installed. One never knows, and most crooks will avoid alarm monitored homes. Just some food for thought.... we got one to keep the teenagers in the house at night  (door and window alarms), and alarmed our sheds too due to the thieves in the area. It does help one sleep better and feel to safe. Plus you can check the status of all doors and windows from the unit, instead of running through the house all the time, to check and double check the locks. There's also cameras you can get and set up to view online, so you could actually see the views of their house (inside and out) from your own computer to check on them.... I have 3, one is always set up to view from my front door out to the street (I can see the Mailman or UPS and their trucks from my TV or my computer.) Some doggy day cares have these cameras installed and allow the owners to log on and see what their dogs are doing all day long! Can you tell I suffered a break-in at one time? It is unnerving to say the least. Hugs to you and your people and pups! |
It's nice to hear they are all on the mend.:) |

After we were broke into we purchased an alarm system. The piece of mind is sooo worth it. |

We have the alrm on every window, door, siren, lights, glass breakage, etc. A 135 pound personal rotection trained Dog (old, but still can pack a punch), as well as a Taurus Judge with 410 00 buck near the bed, and a 12 gauge with 000 buck on the first floor. Then again, if we let them in, why bother with all of the other precautions. They are still real nervous. Basil however, is feeling good, and hating limited mobility by a lot of X-Pen time. |

Thanks Ann. Glad nothing was taken from your house. Glad you had the alarm set. Any idea how many people have alarms and do not bother to turn it on when they leave, or when they are home? |

We were told most will leave when an alarm sounds. This is because they don't want to get caught. And it really isn't that expensive at all. Well worth it in the long run. We keep ours on at night even when we are home. |

After we were broke into we went over board. The security people asked me what I wanted. I told them I want it to be as secure as Fort Knox. Lol. We have alarms on everything and motion detectors. And a 150 lb Great Pyranees. I always tell people not to try to scare me because my new friend is Smith and Wesson. ;) As far as letting people in, I think we all try to think the best of people and put our guard down. Unfortunately, we just can't do that any more. So, glad Basil is feeling better!! He will be up and running before long. :) |
Little man Basil is having a good day. Playing with his toys in his Pen, eating well, and barking to let me know it is time for him to go outside. He slept well last night, and work me up this morning at 0700 to go out and eat. Tomorrow Basil goes to the Vet to have his cast and leg looked at. Marge returns tonight from her trip, and can't wait. It sure does run a lot smoother here when sshe is around. We will visit her parents tomorrow evening. They are doing better, but still scared. Nothing will change that. |
I'm so glad to hear Basil is doing well. I'll be thinking of him tomorrow during his vet visit. |
Steve, this weekend is certainly going to be better than the last. Hope Basil is healing up nicely, and that life will feel more like normal for all of you soon. |
Hope things go well at the vet tomorrow. So glad he is doing well! |
Glad things are better. |
Good to hear things are going some better. Sending prayers and positive thoughts for Basil's checkup tomorrow. Sending healing prayers and thoughts of comfort to your in-laws. |
Little Basil sounds like he's making do with his cast. He's playing and still enjoying life, even though it is in a smaller world. I hope he has a good report from the vet. I'm sure you're going to be thrilled to have Marge home.:) I hope her parents continue to do better everyday. |
I feel bad. Those people did more than ransack your inlaw's house. They took their away their felling of security in their own home. |

Leaving for the vet now! Wish the little guy luck! He is feisty today, and when Marge picked up Maxine, he went ballistic. No Jealousy here! |
Hoping Basil does great at his checkup! I am glad Marge is home to keep the troop in line. Best wishes to her parents for peace of mind. |
Good luck sweet lil Basil! Hope the whole family has a happy relaxing weekend (oh and try to stay warm). |
Steve, I have to agree with you about our system. I swear we are way too lenient on criminals. It is bothersome. Many come out of jail and commit a crime just so they can go back....beats being responsible I guess. Let the taxpayers pay. Hope Basil's check up goes well. |
Checking back to see if any word of how the check up went. Hope, we hear soon. |

When my house was burglarized, we were pretty much told if they were caught nothing would happen to them. Basically a slap on the wrist. They took over $40000.00 worth of stuff and our feeling of safety. They permanently scarred my children. And they permanently scarred me. I have had battle after battle with trying to go on and forget it. However, I think it will remain with me for a long time. The sad thing is they were never caught anyway. :( I can\'t tell you how it feels to come home to a situation like this. For your inlaws, it will be even harder I am sure. I am so sorry they are having to deal with this. Steve, you would have my vote. So, when are you running? |
