And Steve, know that many of us understand what you are going through right now, and that you need to do whatever you feel will help you and your family get through this horrible ordeal. Know in your heart that you truly will be missed, and that we will be praying and/or sending positive thoughts for you and your family to heal and recover from this tragedy. I am praying and sending Hugs and Love to you and yours, your pups, and even your brother in law, and especially for your Dear Marge and her parents. And a suggestion: Have folks sit down on a couch or sofa before handing the pupster over. Hopefully not, but there are many times when our little ones must be handled and/or cared for by others, and it would be better to aclimate them to this, should the need arise. My own little girl flew out of my arms the 4th day we had her. My DH sneezed as he followed me out of the bedroom one morning, and it scared her almost to death! I was so lucky that she wasn't hurt. I couldn't believe she got away from me, as I have owned and handled Yorkies and other small dogs for over 30 years! I have heard of pups doing this and breaking their necks, backs, and legs. |

Hug and prayers to you all. |
Steve, I so not good with words, but know you and your family are in my prayers and thoughts for many levels of healing. Bless you all. |
Thinking about you all. Sending prayers and positive thoughts. Best Wishes. |
I hope today finds everyone feeling better. I'm sure it will be a long month. I hope the time goes quickly for all concerned. |
Oh Steve I'm so sorry for what happened to your in laws. It's such a shame there is scum in the world. I'm also so sorry about Basil but he's going to be fine Thank God. Don't give up on YT because everybody here is behind you 100% |
I'm just now seeing this and cried over the original post. I don't have words to properly express how horrified I am over the home invasion and how absolutely tragic it was to have Basil hurt at the same time. Steve, we don't know each other, but I am so very sorry that this all happened and am sending lots of prayers and love your way. |
So glad that no one has permanent injuries, I think it would be so hard to keep Joey in a crate for a month. I know that dogs that grow up in crates don't mind it, but once they've tasted freedom, it must be so difficult for them to adjust to the crate again, but it's probably harder on us then them. Sending prayers your way Steve. |
Steve, I am just now reading this. It is horrible what those scumbags did to your in-laws. I pray they are caught and justice is served. I am very happy to hear that Basil is doing better. I know how much it must of hurt you seeing your baby hurt like that. I always tell people that these accidents can happen at the blink of an eye, just when you least expect it. I know you probably need some time to take care of your family and babies but don't forget that you have many friends here that care about you too and we will be praying for you, your family and Basil. Hang in there.:ghug: |
I have not given up on Yorkie Talk. How could I with all the great, caring people here. Just not going to post as much as I am spending time with Basil, to be near him as he is in his X-Pen and I keep him company. He had a good day. Ate well, slept well, no pain, and I am surprised on how well he adapted to "3" legs when outside on the leash for him to go. We have a plastic Boot what goes over the cast....to keep it clean and dry. ALready have an apointment set up for him Next Friday, 4/1, and then an X-Ray on 4/8. He will get another Exam on 4/15, an X-Ray on 4/22, and hopefully the cast will be removed then, and perhaps replaced with a soft Cast. Thanks so much for all the good wishes and keeping my spirits from going down any more. Breaks my heart to see the little guy like this. I wish it was my leg instead of his. We are convinced he will be back to 100% in 6 months. He also has quite long legs. Compared to Maxine, who has short little think ones. You all have a great evening, and week. |
OMG Steve, I'm just reading all this now. I am so very sorry for all you and Marge are going through right now. Please try and keep us updated when you can. Prayers going out for a quick recovery for Basil and prayers of comfort for Marge's parents. No one should have to go through what they did. |
Steve, glad to hear all is well with your inlaws and with Basil. I think this will be harder on you than it will be on him. Best wishes to you all. Give Basil some hugs and kisses from Trixie!! |
I'm so glad to hear he is doing ok with his cast. Very good idea to have a plastic bootie with the weather we've been having. It is so nice of you to keep the little guy company. It will help to keep him happy and help his days go quicker. It's really hard to see them down and unable to run like the little terrorists they are, but that time will come.:) |
So sorry to hear all this. Glad your inlaws are ok, and poor little Basil will be ok too. I know how these kinds of days are. Sending positive thoughts your way for you and your family both human and fur. |
Thanks for the updates, Steve, and I'm glad things are going well. I'm sure good news has been hard to find lately, so here's a silver lining that I discovered after surgeries on my Yorkies: Your bond with Basil is likely going to cross a new threshold of understanding and appreciation. Both Jack and Eddie knew they were in serious trouble, and they genuinely appreciated that I had their back. I was closer to both of them after their long ordeals, and I swear they were better dogs too. |

You might appreciate this: My youngest son designed and drew his own tattoo and had a tattoo artist actually put it on. It is brand new in this picture so you won't see the colors pop like they will when the redness & swelling is gone. It is an adaptation of the Navy Seal insignia (his dad, my DH was a Navy Seal during his early years of Navy life). It has the head down eagle, but instead of the anchor, my son used a cross to mount it on to symbolize that he was saved before he died, and instead of it holding a machine gun, his is holding a sword, a symbol of the protection he has after death. He sheathed the sword to signify self-control and put his dad's initials on it (We called him Roy but that was from his middle name LeRoy). Even the placement, over his heart, was well thought out and even more sentimental when he explains it. He has been wanting this for a very long time. I am not really a tattoo person, but how could I not be or something like this? It made me cry when I saw his drawing and they did such a beautiful job on it, I know it will be a source of pride and honor for the rest of his life. He got a small cross with his dad's initials on his shoulder right after his dad passed. He said now he is done -- no more. Thought you might appreciate this. :) |
i am so very sorry to hear of this terrible situation! i cannot even imagine how devistating this is for your family. it breaks my heart that people could be so cruel and that basil broke his leg. :( poor little baby boy! but we all know he is in the best of hands. i wish him a complete and speedy recovery! accidents happen, and you always have the best interest of your babies in mind so you cannot beat yourself up. you would not ever do anything to hurt them. it's obvious how much those furbabies mean to you! and we have all become attached to them too! :) i will keep little basil and your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. again i'm so sorry this has happened. its so sad when bad things happen to good people. carlo, maxine, and basil are so lucky to have you! a little broken leg will not stop this little guy from having the best life possible. he is so lucky to have you! i am glad to hear that you have not given up on yorkie talk. you would be missed incredibly and we are all here to support you! plus, we are looking forward to the pleasure of meeting you and marge and your little maxine and basil someday soon at a yorkie meetup. i hope those crooks get whats coming to them. its hard imagining this has happened. so sorry again. sending prayers! |
Steve, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened with your in-laws and with Basil. I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. Hugs to you and Basil, Bonny |
Thanks for updating us, Steve! We all totally understand that you are busy with little Basil...you are a great dad! :) |
I am just now reading this and I cannot express how sorry I am that all of this happened. My prayers are with you. |
Thank you for the update. Your family continues in my prayers. Sounds like you can add a new metal - that of Honorable Nursemaid. |
Glad to hear things are getting better with Basil and your in laws. I can't imiagine the horror they went through. I had a small dog in a cast one time, we were not sure what happened but someone he broke a leg. I think it was school bus stop kids come in my yard playing with him and dropped him. Once he got used to having the cast, it didn't slow him down. It even amazed the vet. Bones grew back okay. |
Basil had a nice night, slept well. Marge bought another Bed for him that is bigger, so he can get more comfortable. Guess we are now pushing close to a total of 50 beds for all 3 dogs. Also ordered another X-Pen for the Family room. He is doing well today. He ate, barked to let us know he woulds out of the Pen, and is quite mobile with the cast. If you open his pen's door, he will try to make the great escape. I talked to Carlo's Vet today while I had him in, and she also looked at the X-Ray and confirmed it should heal 100%. It will be looked at this Friday. |
I understand that lil guy is sleeping with you right now????? Spoiled and loved..... |
