Thank you all so much. I have been on the phone with Purdue. They are seeing him today and if they agree that he needs surgery he will have it today also. I'm taking some things from home to help comfort him. Please, please, please pray for him. I am leaving right now, just had to update before I left. |
Bitsy - will be thinking about you and Peyton all morning. Hope everything goes well. |
Positive thoughts being sent for you and Peyton today! |
I just saw this and I am sending prayers for sweet Peyton for a smooth and successful treatment for his fracture and a complete recovery. Sending prayers for Bitsy to comfort her during this difficult time. Please do not beat yourself up over this slip. You obviously watch out for your pups and this was one of those moments where an accident happened. |
Positive thoughts and prayers for Peyton and his mom! :) |
Hello...getting ready to head home. The orthopedic surgeon did not recommend surgery. He is on extreme crate rest for a week and then he will go back for check and more x rays. Can't explain all right now, but this is really good news. Will update when I get home. Thanks for the prayers...they are working. God is so good. |

That's terrific news! :D I'm so happy for you and Peyton. Bonny |
So sorry he got hurt, but that's why they're "accidents" not "on purpose's"! I'm so glad to hear he doesn't need surgery!!! |
Very good news!:) Don't beat yourself up about it. Just refocus that energy on Peyton's healing. Make sure you are very strict with the crate rest. |
Great news. |
I am so glad to hear that they recommend crate rest for the treatment.Best wishes to you and Peyton |
That's great! :) |
Whew...what a day. We are back home now. Here is what I found out. Peyton has fractured a growth plate that is connected to the bone beneath his kneecap. I thought it was the knee, but it is actually right below it. The surgeon looked at the x rays and examined him. She said that the growth plate has not moved, and is still attached. This is the great part. If it had detached or detached and moved surgery would be needed. She said they could do surgery on him, and place a couple of pins on there, but that would probably cause more harm than good based on the fracture he has. What she recommends is extreme crate rest for the next 7 days. Next Monday we will go back to see her at Purdue. She will examine and do more x rays. She is very hopeful that it will be healed by then. She did not want to wrap him because she said at his age his bones grow so fast and wrapping it can cause joint stiffness. If any swelling occurs (now there is none) or if the spot becomes painful to the touch or hot (it is neither now), then I will need to get him in asap as it might mean the fracture has worsened. She sent us home with 2 pain medicines to help with any pain. (this is really long....I'm going to continue on another post...) |
