I am so sorry to hear about Peyton. Accidents happen so don't be so hard on yourself. I am glad you are taking him to Purdue in the morning. Just in case they can do the surgery tomorrow I would hold of feeding him after midnight. When I took Pixie in to the ortho surgeon for a consult on her LP they told me not to feed her after midnight. I thought it was strange so I asked why and she said she may decide to do the surgery that day and they did. I will keep Peyton in my prayers. |
Good idea about not feeding after midnight. We are back home. He went potty (a little loose from the stress of the vet visit I am sure), and now he is eating some kibble, so that is good. I'll make sure he gets plenty before midnight. Thanks for all the kind words. They really do help. I cannot tell you how bad I feel...I've cried several times about it. I was trying to not cry in front of the vet and I was fine until she said, don't feel bad, these things happen. She must have seen it on my face even without me crying. Ugh. But, I am thankful that things are not worse. When I was in with Peyton I could hear a few people coming in with their pets. One had cancer and the other was having seizures. So sad. Peyton's knee has a very good chance of making a full recovery. That is the thought I am going to try to hold onto. |
Accidents happen even to the most careful people. It's how we respond to them that shows what we're made of. You've done everything you can get your little one the best possible care. Don't beat yourself up about it anymore. I'll say a little extra prayer for Peyton to have a full and speedy recovery. |

Thank you so much everyone. This makes me feel so bad because it is 100% preventable. We also have Sophia, a 6 year old Yorkie. I am always reminding the kids to be careful with them, and to follow certain rules for their safety. And then I go and do this. I'm really glad this didn't happen with them though. I'd hate for them to feel this bad. However, I am using this as a chance for them to learn. My 9 year old was like "mommy, I can't believe you did that!" She wasn't trying to make me feel worse, she was just really shocked. I'm sure my girls will have Yorkies when they grow up, this will really help them learn about being extra careful. Anyhow, my sweet boy is curled up on me sleeping. He is wrapped in his "Yorkie Haven Rescue" blanket I bought him. It is so warm and cozy. :) |

I am very sorry Peyton got hurt. This was an accident. Try not to blame yourself. Sounds like he is in good hands and the referral will be helpful in deciding the best treatment options for him. He is lucky to have such good yorkie parents. I hope your little Peyton makes a full recovery . |
Omgggggggg!! My dear friend can't believe I didn't see this until now!! Peyton is going to be fine Hun you're such an amazing mommy for doing eveything you are!! Purdue is def the best choice!! My heart and prayers go out to you and Peyton!!!! Huge huge huge hugs!!! Vivian |
Thank you Viv and everyone else who has posted encouragement. I am so anxious for tomorrow. I want to get him there so we can know how to proceed. It will most likely mean surgery from all that I have read. :( The thought of that just breaks my heart. I will probably have to leave him over night there when they do it. Ugh...I hate that. I wish could stay there too to hold him and comfort him. For now I am just enjoying cuddling him. Can't let him run around and play. Good thing he likes to snuggle. Quote:

I'm so sorry little Peyton is hurt. You sound like a terrific momma and you're doing everything right to get him all better. :) You and Peyton will be in my thoughts and prayers today as you visit the surgeon. Hugs, Bonny |
Ahhh Bitsy...I feel so bad that Peyton was hurt, but please don't be so hard on yourself. Accidents happen...that's why they call them accidents. I will be praying for little Peyton, and also for you to be comforted. *HUG* You and your family are so dear to me. You will be in my thoughts today as you take Peyton to Purdue. |
Just wanted to say, we are thinking about you today...hugs to you both! Will check back later on to see how the little guy is. Sending only good thoughts! |
Thinking of you today. Prayers for you and Peyton. |
Just seeing this now. I'm so sorry that Peyton got hurt, but everyone here is right. Accidents do happen even to the most vigilant owner. I'll be thinking about you and Peyton today. Please keep us updated on how he is doing. |
Agreed, Accidents will happen no matter how careful you are. As an owner of three small dogs I can verify this. Zach my yokrie jumped out of my arms while giving him a bath, he also jumped out of his playpen and landed on his nose which started bleeding like crazy, I felt so guilty but I thought he was safe in his play pen. You are taking care of Peyton and getting him the medical attention he needs and you are a great mom. |
