| Confused & scared Hello, This is my first time to post here, never had a reason til now... I have a yorkie who will be 13 on the 14th. His name is Harley, and let me say he has never been a "normal" dog. He has always been a nervous nelly as I call him. He hates loud noises, hates car rides, ok he bascially shakes alot. He will turn tail if there is any loud talking, I have always said he needed to be on valium. But he is always around whenever there is any kind of food....my mother started that! He will sit beside me looking like he hasn't eaten in days, which of course is not true. I only let him lick my plate....he constantly follows me wherever I go, and of course I can never figure out what it is he wants when he looks at me and does his little woofing thing. So my dilema, I am in TX and of course we had our worse ever ice storm yesterday, now Harley hates to go pp n the rain let alone ice, but I carry him out to the grass and he does his business and I pick him up, nothing out of the norm, but today he has been under the bed all day, when I look under there he turns his head like I'm going to scold him for something (which he does all the time too, even though there has never been a hand raised to him) so I got him out and he was shaking horribly almost as bad as when we go to the groomer, but even weirder is the fact of me in the kitchen cooking, and then eating and nothing, he didn''t budge, this is the really freaky part. I even took something into him and nope. So when I got him I wrapped him in a blanket and held him on lap for awhile which he only shook a little. So I put him down and he ran straight back under the bed and has been there all night. I just don't know what to think. His nose is wet, he really doesn't act like he is sick, can't tell bout his eyes because he has cataracts on both eyes. I really hate taking him to the vet, the last time they tried to give him cushings disease....I knew what that problem was , but $500 later it was fixed. My ever loving husband had fed him 2 bowls of orange juice....yea I know why? Ok he's a man and said he liked it, well 2 pepcid ac's and we were back to normal, cushing's disease my rear. I do not trust them when it comes to my baby. He just acts frightened. I do know that because of the ice he has not poopoo'd in 2 days, could that be the problem? I would really appreciate any advice on this, I know my time is limited with him after all he is almost 13, and I can't even imagine life without him, but I'm not ready for that yet. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Have you had him since he was a pup or did you get him when he was older? the most obvious thing for his nervous ways are if you got him older and he had a nasty owner in the past, but im sure you have already thought of that. Have you tried switching vets? I know there is a female vet at my surgery who Poppy is really scared of, but a male vet she loves and is totally relaxed with so he is the only vet she sees now. It's strange for your pup to be so nervous, I would get a second opinion from another vet to make sure he isnt ill.

| Mine hide when they have issues with their anal glands. Also, two of mine are very sensitive to changes in barometric pressure, which occurs before and during a storm...

| If my pup was acting in a way out of the norm, I would consult with my vet. Perhaps, since you do not trust your vet, it is time to find another one? 13 is older, but does not mean it is time to give up! You could have a few years left and at that age good vetting is very important. Good luck!

| Have you checked his rear end for dried poop on his hiny hole? It could be blocking it in. My girl will hide when she has done soemthing wrong. You need to go to the vet and rule out anything medical. |

| Is it possible you could gate him in the kitchen? (put some solo harp music on) Or if you have an expen, put it up with the crate attached. Then put a potty pad, chews and toys down, along with water of course. Cook his meals. Make him some rice and red meat, with carrots and green beans. Make things as pleasant as possible but don't take him outside. Crush some bran flakes and sprinkle on his food to help with his constipation. I sure hope he comes around.
