| Ringworm Confirmed Well, the vet. dermatologist confirmed that Zoe does have ringworm. It's apparently an odd case, as she does not have any red spots or sores, scabs, etc. She's not even itchy. Just balding. So far she's had two lime sulpher dips (while we were waiting on culture). She will continue those, receive a pediatric, liquid, anti-fungal med. Since she's so small (2 1/4 lbs) she has to take one week on, one off, one on, etc. He recommended I cut short what miniscule amount of hair she does have, and that we clean with bleach, vacuum, etc. continuously. Apparently this can take many months to cure (or not...go, Zoe, go:exclaim...you can do it...knock this out in a month!). Bummed. Especially for poor tiny Zoe, who's had such a rough go of it!

| I adopted a kitten from the shelter and he had ringworm. I even had him spend a couple days at the vet so they could check him out, before bringing him home. What could be a long story short, all my pets got ringworm. It was a nightmare. Hang in there, I feel your pain.

| Not sure if your vet explained the risks of the oral meds or not but I will give you a little heads up on this. If your baby starts to vomit at all, Get Her to the Vet immediately. Also did they do blood work to check the liver before they gave you the meds? This is normally done as oral antifungal mets can destroy the liver. They have to be rechecked after each prescription is finished before they can start a second round as well. |

Ringworm does not sound like a good time but I'm glad you went to a veterinary dermatologist who is able to give you all the information you need about the treatment.

| at one point our first vet suspected ringworm. I read up on it and it sounded like a never ending problem. The meds that she wanted to put both of our on could have affected their liver. Hubby insisted on getting a second opinion and thankfully we did as he did not have ringworm and he cleared up with a medicated shampoo and conditioner! It can be a nightmare to keep up with but it will eventually be solved. Best of luck to you.

| About 5 years ago we got two kittens from the animal shelter. After a few months we realized that they had ringworm (turns out the shelter had an outbreak while they were there). Luckily they are outside cats (we live in the country and they are great at critter-catching!) so we didn't have a big problem inside the house but Tatum did get a spot on her. The cats had to be bathed every couple days for a couple weeks (if I remember right) with a prescription shampoo. THAT was fun!! No, really they were actually very good at taking baths. They just weren't very happy about having to be kenneled while the shampoo sat on them for a while each time. Luckily that cleared up our problem. On the other hand, when my kids were little, my MIL got a litter of kittens from her boss who were highly infected with ringworm. My daughters ended up getting it quite severely all over their arms, legs and even a few spots on their faces. Nightmare! I tell you this because if you do get it on yourself, Lotrimin cream will clear it up pretty quickly. You just have to put it on the spot(s) very regularly and continue for a while even after the spot looks healed. As for the apple cider vinegar..... can I ask a possibly stupid question? Are we talking about putting it in their water or putting it directly on the ringworm spot? I hadn't heard of that but I do know that ACV is great for many things so it doesn't surprise me. Good luck!!

| Tia came to us with Ringworm. It was terrible. I cried alot because I was sterilizing everything every other day! Me and my husband, three dogs and my elderly neighbor with cancer and her yorkie got it. Read some of the other threads on ringworm. It takes a lot of cleaning. Good luck and hope it clears up fast. Remember, ringworm can live on carpet and furniture for a long time. Clean, clean, clean... |

| Thanks so much everyone who posted! Does the apple cider vinegar replace the lime/sulpher dip, or is it in addition to it? My intuition says the lime/sulpher dip is not a good thing for Zoe. She has lost a bit of weight and her skin is so dry, just from the two dips she's had so far.

| ACV did not work for us. Both mine had baths every other day with a shampoo from the vet (leave on for 10 minutes) and oral medication. I washed everything in bleach every other day (tile floors, bedding, toys, walls, baseboards, dishes, etc.) Although the dogs were not allowed on the carpet with ringworm, I vacuumed every other day because we walked on it and could have carried some of the spores. Make sure you change bags and/or clean the vacuum afterwards too. I purchased a shampooer so I could clean my furniture. They are not clear of ringworm until two negative cultures. I bleached their kennels (10 minutes) also. I should have had stock in bleach!!!! Ally got very dry skin from all of this. She had to go thru more baths with a different shampoo from the vet to get rid of it. It was like she had frosted flakes on her neck. I recently changed their shampoo and she is going thru it all over again. Her skin has never been the same since. (Tia was adopted Easter of last year.) |

| Yes, that is Tia in my avatar and yes, it does take forever to get rid of that stuff. I'm not sure of her age in the avatar, but she will turn one year on Sunday. Ally just turned two years on New Years Eve. Lots of birthdays at my house. DH was second week of Dec, then Christmas, Ally's BD, three days later my oldest son, five days later my youngest son, couple of weeks later Tia, then a couple more weeks and mine!!!! Ally (3lbs 2 oz) and Tia (apprx 5-6lbs) at Christmas. |
