Mija never really reacted to loud noises other than the doorbell; when someone was at the door she deffinately let us know. Now, when someone is at the door she will give a low bark but nothing more. When we say her name she does look at us, but she doesn't come towards us to see what we want. She is so tiny that she has never been able to climb the stairs or jump onto anything, so I can't see a change in that. But her walk is normal like before, she turns her head easily in all directions and she now sleeps on her back, which she didn't do when we first took her home after the fall.

She has an appointement first thing tomorrow morning with a neurologist, hopefully he'll clear things up for us.

I hope that the neuro can find out if there is a problem or not, or is it just the expected response to healing from a concussion.

Good luck for tomorrow

People can have lasting effects from concussions, such as headaches, dizziness and even personality changes that last weeks or months, even though they are technically "fine" upon exam (no swelling, active bleeding, etc). It only stands to reason that it could happen to dogs, too.

Sleeping on her back can be a good sign, a dog that is not feeling comfortable in a home or trusting won't expose their belly...

When my little female first came to us, she did not like to be held for more than a few seconds at a time... she's gotten better but it has taken many months. Probably longer too bc she didn't 'know' us to begin with. She just gets nervous after a time so I let her down when she wants down, but she is staying in my lap a lot longer now, especially when she gets belly rubs.

I hope she does well at her appointment with the neurologist tomorrow. Even if nothing is found, I think you will still be dealing with regaining her trust for a while... and I don't know if she will ever return to her 'normal' self, totally. I guess that depends on how bad the fall has affected her, and as they can't talk, you will have to be sensitive to her reactions as much as possible to try to help her recover.

That is great. Please keep us posted. I just wanted to add I know exactly what you mean about knowing they are not acting right. I once took Maddie to her vet and basically, all I could say was she was not herself. He found she had the start of an inner ear infection.

We know our pups and I can usually tell when one of them is not feeling quite right.

I've taken quite a few pets, cats and dogs, with ADR (ain't doing right) to the vet, the most recent was my nine year old cat. She turned out to be in hyper-thyroid, but just barely.

You'll be glad you followed your instincts if for no other reason than peace of mind. I hope all goes well.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am that this happened to Mija. I hope that your followup visit with this neurologist goes well. I'm thinking this was a very severe shock to little Mija's nervous system even though she had no obvious fractures. It only stands to reason that it will take a period of time for her to completely heal from this. Whiplash type injuries in humans takes considerable time to heal as well. I'll be keeping you and your little Mija in my prayers and hoping for good news tomorrow.

I just came back from the vet with my baby and ironically he found that she had the start of an ear infection. I had him do another set of x-rays just for my peace of mind, and they all came clear. He said her behaviour was normal after having had a concussion and that she should be back to her own little self in no time. I already saw some improvement, yesterday she started to have interest in her favourite toys again and she slept through the entire night stuck by my side like she did before. Hopefully all she needs is a little more time and she'll be back to noraml.

I just read about poor Mija. That must have been so scarey for all of you. I hope that she continues to improve and is soon back to her old self. She is lucky to have such a great mom looking out for her. Healing prayers are being sent to sweet Mija.

Thanks for the great update! So glad she is showing signs of improvement and hopefully she will be good as new in no time.
