| It's fine if $7 per pet is okay for you when it comes to your animals, but it isn't really okay to say that this practice is okay for animals in general. there is a thread here right now. Yorkie brought to the vet. Treated for UTI without a urinalysis because that's what it looked like. Back at the vet's three days later and finally dx with stones. There is a vet here who practices in much the same way as you're talking about. Everyone loves him simply because he charges next to nothing. So when he misdiagnoses something, people don't seem to care. He put a dog on lasix - said it was CHF. Another vet (actually Ellie's "money grabbing" vet did an xray and found that, in fact, the dog did not have CHF. And he dx a cat with feline AIDs without enough taking it out of its crate. Went to another vet who actually ran a blood test and, in fact, it was a misdiagnosis. Testing is expensive, but that doesn't mean it's ok to skip it. If we are just going to randomly choose drugs to treat problems that we haven't proven exist, then owners migh as well just be allowed access to all the drugs vets have access to. If we're talking about a family friend doing the exam part of a wellness check for free, hey, cool! But if this is what is constantly being done for everyone, there is just no way that an office can be maintained. For this $50, no blood work can be ran or anything. So no wellness testing is done at all? So your vet just waits for problems to show up (because by then it's sometimes too late)? When a surery is needed this vet uses only the best anesthesia? Best monitoring equipment? Standard of care has changed very much over the last few decades and with that comes a bigger bill. I'll take that over guessing at what could be wrong and hoping that the right thing is being treated.
