| Licking Lips Continuously . . . Worried! For the last three days our Bella has been "licking her lips" on and off throughout the day. She acts normal, eats, does not seems to be in pain. It's just that her tongue is in/out in/out, never done this before. What could be wrong. She is seeing the vet tomorrow, but I'm so worried. I thought someone might be able to ease my mind so I could get some sleep tonight. Thanks for any help you could provide. She does not do it while she is sleeping, only awake. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | is there any hair stuck in her mouth from her beard? sometimes the longer hair on the muzzle can get stuck in their mouth and go partially down their throat while still being attached to their face, ya know? open her mouth and check it out. trace the lip line and make sure there is no hair in there. also, i know dogs lick their lips a lot when they are nauseous.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Like Kellie mentioned mine have done that when they have a little hair stuck down their throats or when nauseous. Hopefully that is all it is.

| Can you describe it in any more detail? Is there any swallowing involved or just licking lips?

| No swallowing or gulping involved, just the lip licking. It looks like she is trying to get a bad taste out of her mouth. She sticks it out and her tongue curls sometimes. No other symptoms. |

| My Cooper used to do this combined with swallowing when he had a throat infection. He licks his lips now due to seasonal allergies. Let's see what the vet says.

| My Taj used to do that a lot. If I let her chew a rawhide bone too long, stringy bits would get caught in her front teeth and she'd try to dislodge them with her tongue. She also chewed a bath mat and got the same result, strings in her teeth. I hope it's nothing more serious than that for your pup. |
