| Pippin might have eaten some gum I called the vet and they said to induce vomiting. He had exploratory surgery about a month ago and had a stomach biopsy. I don't know what to do? If I take him in the technician said she would give him the hydrogen piroxide. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | What kind of gum was it, I don't think you need to worry unless it was sugarless. Do you have any hydrogen peroxide on hand? If not, I'd go see the technician. You need to do something in the first half hour!

| He got into my daughter's purse. We don't know if he ate a half a piece of Extra gum or it could have been two pieces. She doesn't remember. We called another vet. She said Extra doesn't have Xyzitol it isn't posionus. Extra has sorbital. That vet said not to induce vomiting. |

| Did you mention to them that he had surgery recently? Personally, if it were my pup, I would let them induce vomiting just in case something might happen. I have given peroxide to induce vomiting before, but with a pup that had surgery, I might be a bit hesitant. Was this sugarless gum? That stuff is toxic to dogs.

| What if that vet is wrong? Since Pippin just had two stomach biopsies I hate to put something that caustic in his stomach. I'm looking at my fingers that got the peroxide on them and they are discolored. What would it do to his stomach? |

I feel like I've just aged 10 years. I have been home cooking for him to try and heal his stomach from the IBD.

That is what I would do! It really sounds like all is going to be just fine. There is no xylitol in Extra and I doubt the gum will hurt him.

| Thank you for your advice. I'm going to go in the other room so he'll relax on my stomach. I'll check in later. Valerie |

It has only been 4 weeks since we went through his exploratory surgery. I was holding the bottle of peroxide in my hand thinking...if his stomach lining is raw from the IBD what is this peroxide going to do to it. He's on my lap right now and he is acting normal. I want it to be tomorrow morning so I know he will be fine. I think life would be easier if we didn't love them so much. The whole time Kim and I were trying to decide what to do I kept thinking what am I going to do if I lose him. Next to my two daughters, Pippin is my world. Maybe it's because he is so little and acts like velcro. We kid that he is allergic to the floor because he has to be on my lap all the time. We're heading to bed and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
