The old guy finished his Ulcer Medication, and is now only going to be taking a Prednisone 20mg every other day, as well as a Pepcid AC daily. No more Palladia to cause him ulcers and worse, and at the low cost of around $1000 a month. He is doing terrific. If he did not have the gray hair, you would think he was around 5 years old. He is muscled back up, has the stamina, and fun personality again. Sometimes the cure is the killer. I am sorry I had him on Palladia after his Chemo, as it only offers side effects, and does not work in over 50% of the cases in the trials. It was just approved for use, and at $24 a pill (Carlo took 9 pills a week), it made him sick. My regular Vet is also glad he is off, and the Specialist said, well, it may work to keep if from coming back, possibly. He would have no quality of life on it. Every day he is around is a holiday, and every meal a feast.

I am so glad Carlo is doing better. When my pom had Cushing's the medicine was making her so sick and not doing much for her cushing's. We pulled her off of it and my vet tried anipryl for her cushing's and dementia. She had another year or so of pretty good quality of life. So sometimes the medicines are worse than the disease. Hoping Carlo has many more good days ahead.

I'm so glad he's doing better now. Will he get to go hunting with you in a few weeks, or does he stay home to take care of the women?

No, he will remain at home, guarding the house and the girls. We never go out with Maxine without him. He has a way of keeping the Coyotes away. Perhaps if I drove to TX I would consider taking him, but I would not fly him now with his illness. I also would not want the old guy holding a Hog ear at his age. He could get hurt. No doubt if he was a kid he would have excelled in it. WHen I am gone, he will sit in the mud room and stare at the door leading from the garage, and jump up at every sound he hears. He does the same whem my wife travels.
