| Chicken & rice: how much? Teddy is suffering loose stools and decreased appetite. Last night he had a little blood in his stool. I think he is stressed from the heat and summertime version of cabin fever. We have been cutting our morning walk short, and last night we didn't even try to go outside because the temperature never dropped below 90 degrees. Teddy will eat yogurt and peas, but not much kibble. I want to give him chicken and white rice. How much of each should I serve him? |

| I'd mix them together and just start with a very small serving. See how that goes and give some more a little bit later if it seems to sit well.

| Half and half given in small amounts is fine (maybe 1/8th cupt to start and increase to 1/4). It may just be a tummy bug, but if it is reasonably cool in your house, I'm guessing it's not the heat. He should probably be seen if it lasts much more than 24 hours or it gets worse.

The softer stool started Thursday night. Then it was firmer in the morning, and back to soft. He isn't lethargic, but he isn't wrestling his brother as much. I will definitely take him in if stools/appetite don't improve today. | |

| Awww, poor Teddy! I know, the heat is terrible around here. The only way Jackson has been able to get his exercise is through my dads house since he's got the inground pool--it's the only way to be outside and stay semi-cool, lol. It's crazy. I have no advice on the chicken & rice, but wanted to wish Teddy well.

| Well I hope he gets better, but my little one did have loose stool about two weeks ago and one thing the vet did mention was to make sure that NO BLOOD was present in his stool... otherwise it could mean something in his intestines. Maybe you should contact your vet. |

| Blood in his stool is never a good sign and I would bring him to a vet to make sure he's ok. As far as the chicken and rice I would give an equal amount or a little less than his normal portion of kibble. So if let's say he got 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening that is the proportion I'd do. A little more chicken than rice. I hope he will be ok and I'm sure you will take him to your vet....I just don't like the idea of blood in a stool. Let us know how he is doing when you get the chance, ok? Dyan |

| Thank you everyone for the well wishes. The steamed chicken and white rice put a smile on Teddy's face. At noon, he begged for his lunch. I put a little kibble in his bowl and gave him a couple of peas. He ate it all. Now I'm waiting for good poops. I still think this is stress colitis: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ood-stool.html It's been a stressful week for us and Teddy is a sensitive boy. He lives for his walks and it has been very hard on him to be restricted. The bit of blood came last night at midnight. If stools don't improve by tonight or tomorrow morning, I will take him to the vet. |

| Good to hear Teddy ate...that is fantastic!! This heat is unbearable here in UpstateNY...I can't imagine what it's like in Va. You are good not to be taking him for walks in such heat. Please let us know how he is doing when you can. Keeping paws that he's just fine. |

| Oh I am so sorry that Teddy is not feeling well. A couple of times this summer Sophie has some runny poop and once I came home to a little plop of diarrhea with a tiny bit of blood in it. It has been very hot here as well. Her upset tummy never lasted more that about 12 hours. Just kept an eye on her and made sure she drank. Don't know if it was from heat or what but never lasted long.

| Thank you Earth Angel and Terlis for the well wishes. Teddy had fairly good poopies tonight -- no blood! Still not perfectly firm, but I am optimistic. He is energetic, ate most of his dinner kibble, and is begging to go for a walk, which isn't going to happen because it is still 97 degrees out there. |

| Awww! Hang in there Teddy! Way too hot to go outside! Winter will be here before we know it! Tinkerbell says playing catch withh Mommie in the house is fun too! (Mommie can't throw too well so it's liable to end up anywhere! More like hide and seek than catch!) We just had a really bad Thunderstorm so maybe things have cooled down some, but now Mommie won't let us out cause we'll get all wet. Can't win! Hope you have good poopies soon... moms always worry if it ain't perfect!
