| Could This Weed Cause Vomiting? Just wondering if anyone knows if this weed could cause vomiting. Yesterday, I saw Vivi out on the deck, lick a little seedling plant, then put it in her mouth and chew on it a couple of times. I told her "AH-AH" and she spit it out and I thought that was the end of that. However, about 10 minutes later she started vomiting. Just weird that this happened so simultaneously. In Kentucky, we call this weed a potato vine. (Not sure why because it has nothing to do with potatoes.) I looked it up and it is related to the Morning Glory, but could find no mention of it causing ill effects in animals. Does anyone have any information on why this might have happened? Just curious. (By-the-way Vivi appears to be perfectly normal now.) Here are the pictures. Picture 1 - Little seedling weed that somehow ended up on our deck. See the pointy leaves? summer pictures 096.jpg Picture 2 - Full grown potato vine that I need to pull out of our yard. summer pictures 097.jpg Thanks for your comments....

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have mine eat weeds outside and then throw up. I don't know about that particular one. Glad she feels better now.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This is actually called the "sweet potato vine" and yes it is poisoness. Glad Vivi, is ok, she'll probably never try that again, when vomiting occurs after a novel food, animals learn to avoid the food. EmilyCompost - Celebrating gardening, plants, and weeds

Sometimes when we read threads about someone's dog vomiting, I often wonder if its because of something like this, but they just didn't see what the dog ate.

What an interesting thought about vomiting and maybe having ate something outside. I just got lucky and happened to see this episode. Thanks again for your thoughts.

| I'm glad Vivi is okay! This is a very interesting thread. I'm always worried about what my boys are tasting when they are outside. Those pesky little poisonous mushrooms that pop up in the grass are my biggest concern. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yeah, I've wondered about those too, since very little can cause extreme illness in a human.

| Lisa....glad Vivi is okay. We have a smaller area fenced off for our doggies so I spend quite a bit of time, as I watch them, just wondering around looking for weeds and mushrooms. It's the bird and reptile poo that causes the most problems. Look for those, too, but don't always see it before the dogs find it. Mulberry season makes the poo all the more facinating. My Pommie is the absolute worst with that issue. ~Joanne~

Way off topic, but it does have to do with muberries.... I remember being a young adult and making a mulberry pie from scratch (using the mulberries in my parent's yard). Took all day because it took hours to get the stems out of the mulberries. Never liked them since. But, certainly wish I had that kind of time to waste now. Also, Vivi is doing fine and thanks for asking.
