I can't tell you how much I love this little girl. She has brought such joy and happiness to my life. I would do anything for her and that includes spending my last dollar on her.

It has a funny little yorkie on it LOL. There is also a smaller size 90 caps for $27.99, but the 180 cap is more economical in the long run. There is even DS (double strength) and I don't even use that one and Uni is doing just fine. Uni is also around 5 lbs. She is hyper, and loves to play, and I allow her too, just monitor that it's not TOO much. Honestly, at gr1, you don't have to be *so* worried. Again Uni is gr3 and she stills had normal activity, just no crazy jumping. As for the steps. Nancy1999 gave me some great tips. For example if she is on the sofa and someone rings the bell, she wants to jump off and bark at the door. Pick her back up on the sofa and tell her to go down the steps (with the aid of a treat if she needs the "hint") and praise her when she does. Do this every time she wants down for whatever reason. She will soon realize that it will be faster for her if she goes down the steps herself than jumping off and having you put her back up to use the steps. Hope that made sense. But just like any training, you have to do it *every* time until they get it and do it themselves.

| I'm sorry to hear about Betty Boop's LP She sounds so adorable, and she is gorgeous! I tried to avoid the jumping as much as I could with my Yorkies and watching their weights to prevent problems. It sounds like she is in great hands with you as her mom.

| Thank you! Did you have any babies with LP? I think I'm overprotective.I just want to do what is best for her.

When I first got Kaji, the first thing I did was take him to the vet for a wellness check. My heart sank when the vet said he had LP. My jaw dropped when she said he has grade 3/4 in both knees (4 is the worse they can have). I took him to 2 other vets hoping for a different diagnosis and all three came back with the same diagnosis. My vet right away jumped into wanting to schedule surgery for him, but in almost a year that I've had him, he shows no signs of discomfort. He's very active too. Take it a day at a time and see if your baby responds to the supplements. I have heard of people who had the surgery and then their baby had an injury and had LP again. Research it, of course, and decide what you think is right for your little one.

| My first Yorkie, Jolie, had it in one leg. When she was younger, she would have problems with it when she did too much jumping. When it bothered her, she ran around on three legs, but surgery was not recommended for her. When I got the other three, we were probably overprotective, and we did everything we could to prevent the jumping. I also had their doctor check their knees often. I know how difficult it is to prevent a puppy from running and playing, so you do what you can to encourage her to use steps and ramps, when possible. I can already tell that Betty Boop is and will always be well taken care of by you. When Ashley got much older, she sometimes had minor problems, especially with some arthritis, but it was rare. She was still walking a couple of miles a day and would have walked more if I let her. I carried her a lot in the beginning and didn't let her walk much because I worried it might be too much for her heart and legs because of her age, but gradually she walked more and more and cried when I wouldn't let her.

Isn't she wearing a cast a wearing one in the photo? That's why I asked. It's most likely hereditary. It can get worst or stay the same. Surgery is not common for grade 1. You can find one be going online, or asking vets. Many vets do these surgeries and they should only be done be surgeons. Make sure it's a board certified surgeon. When performed properly the surgery is great. Some people have to have it do more than one time. Make sure you find a board certified ortho surgeon. | |

| I would definitely seek the opinion of a board certified orthopedic surgeon in the future IF your vet suggests surgery. Probably no need at this point to have her seen. Most of my pups have LP at varying stages and none has required surgery. Unless there is a problem with ambulation all of the time coupled with pain, it is not suggested by my vet or the orthopedic surgeon I use for orthopedic cases. I just would not allow a general practice vet to operate on ány of my pup's knees...just my opinion of course. $350 is very inexpensive for LP surgery...it concerns me that it is that cheap. Sounds like she is a cutie pie! Hopefully she will never have problems that require surgery on her knee.

| I'm sorry to hear that Betty Boop has LP. I definitely agree with the others that surgery may be unnecessary with a grade 2 LP. My dog Daisy had surgery for a grade 4 in one leg 8 years ago and her other back leg is also a grade 4 and we have not needed surgery. Our surgeon was very conservative and would only do surgery on her if she was lame. Betty Boops bathing suit is adorable BTW.

| So sorry to hear of BB's diagnosis. Personally, i've never heard of surgery being done on a Grade I or II LP. When I first got my dogs, they were all jumpers. You may be able to curb this by using a little foresight. Like when you go to walk into the bedroom, when she would normally jump on the bed, pick her up and place her there. Same when you go to leave, but you have to grab her before she launches, and set her down. After a few times, she'll learn to wait for you to help her.

What ortho do you use? You are right about not going to a specialist just yet. I'll be watching for other signs of pain and discomfort.
