| Worried About Max Hey, my name is Jessica and I am new to this forum (I don't even have a pic up of my puppy yet.) This is my first thread, ever! Anyway, I was wondering if y'all might be able to help me out. My yorkie Max just turned 4 in March and about 1 1/2 - 2 months ago I noticed his belly was a black/purplish color. Long story short, my husband and I rushed him to the Emergency Vet, doctor said it looked like there was nothing to worry about, it should clear up. It has cleared up a little on one side of his belly but the other side remains bruised looking. She also said we should probably get some allergy tests done on him, since it's allergy season it might have something to do with that. We have not done this yet only because it's so expensive and we want to sign him up for pet insurance. Overall his attitude is a bit sluggish, he's always been very hyper and playful. Now he mopes around sometimes. He still has a regular appetite. Nothing much has changed, except that he's not as hyper as he used to be. I'm really worried about him so if any of y'all have any input at all, I would love to hear it. Thank you so much for your time! |

| Well I could be completely wrong but in humans when there's internal bleeding it'll cause a discoloring of the skin. Have they done a CT to see if there's something internally wrong? An xray here is about 50 bucks... Just a thought?

| Actually, you're right, I forgot to add that part. The reason why we rushed him in was because on the internet someone had posted something somewhere about the internal bleeding being related to the discoloring. When we got there I asked the vet about it and she said she had seen what internal bleeding looks like from the outside and she didn't think what he has was that. They did not do a CT scan though. I think I might call his regular vet this week and see if they can take a look at him and tell me what they think we should do. I don't feel as secure getting outside doctors to look him over, I would much rather his regular vet. Thank you for your suggestion, I didn't even think about a CT Scan and the vet never mentioned anything about one either. I will be sure to ask our vet about it! |

| My Westie has purplish skin too. He has bad skin allergies that we keep under control with OTC allergy meds; grain free food; cortisone shampoo; and the occasional dose of prednisone from the Vet when itching/sneezing/scratching get too bad. So, maybe it is allergies like your Vet is thinking. Welcome to YT and I hope you get your answers soon! |
