Yep, I was just telling Scott that last night! We seem to get an average of one wag per day! I hope I'm not jinxing it by saying that lol

After all we've done, after all the money we've spent, after all the therapies and rules we've been following exactly... today had to happen. We went to pick her up from rehab and usually the vet brings her up, but today she was busy and in a hurry to leave, so I left the papers for her at the front desk and they paged a vet tech to bring Layla for us. Usually that's fine and there's no issues, she gets carried up to us and we take her home. Today, we waited a long time. We were the only people in the waiting room, and then two girls were bringing a dog out. They were walking really slowly. Scott peeked around the corner when he heard "Come on! Come on!" in a baby voice and he immediately rushed over and I followed. There's Layla, trying to drag herself across a slippery tile floor, with a leash looped around her little neck. We were both in shock and he scooped her up while they were telling us how cute she is! We just threw the leash off her neck and put her in her carrier and left. I cried all the way home. Do they realize she CAN'T WALK? She just had SPINAL SURGERY! She is absolutely not supposed to be dragging herself right now. We have no idea how far or how long she was dragging. I am just so crushed, that goes against everything we're trying to follow for her.

OH MY GOD!!!! Did they say anything to you?? How could they do that?! I am so sorry. I hope no damage was done! Has she been wagging her tail anymore, that seemed so promising! Hugs to you and Layla.

They said "Oh she's so cute! She can really move!" and we just couldn't say anything back, and Scott just said to me now he wishes he had that moment all over again. We're going to be calling her vet tomorrow about this. They should know better. I just felt sick walking out of there.

I can't believe that!! Did they not know? (Not that it is any excuse). I couldn't even imagine how you must be feeling. It makes me angry and I wasn't even there

Her legs don't work and her back is shaved, so you'd think anyone would be smart enough to put that together and realize that she recently had surgery on her back. It's so frustrating! I thought she was in the best care there, but now I'm second guessing. We've never seen those techs before, so I think we may just have to request that the girls who have been working with Layla from the start are the only ones with her. And we will be calling her vet tomorrow to complain for sure.

OMG....I cannot believe this has happened to you after all you have been through!! Hopefully there will be no problem even though these vet techs didn't have the sense to realize how fragile Layla is. I would definitely be calling the vet and complaining to make sure this never happens again.

It sounds like the tail wags are coming more frequently, so maybe you will have them on video soon. She is doing so good, and it's so nice to read your optimist posts.

I am having a bad day. She hasn't wagged her tail since Tuesday. I can't help thinking that she may have been reinjured yesterday and just not know it because she can't feel it. I am just sick over this. Scott called the vet but can't get ahold of her and she's supposed to call him back.

I'm just in shock after reading your post, Lindsey. I'm hoping that she wasn't injured again. How could anyone be sooooooooo dumb? If they worked for me, I'd fire them!

Lindsay, all I can say is how very disappointed I am to read of this horrid experience. Let's not think she re-injured, perhaps just agitated some areas that require rest for a day or so. I do hope desperately that Scott was to speak to the vet. Someone needs to address the careless actions of those techs. I just simply can't believe this happened. Sending lots and lots more prayers to all of you. Don't get discouraged....remember the examples I gave you. But absolutely insist that those two dim-wits have no contact with Layla going forward.

Sorry I didn't update sooner... the vet did call back and Scott told her how upset and hurt we were by seeing Layla dragging herself like that and the vet apologized profusely and said that never should have happened. She is going to try to find out who it was that brought Layla up, and she will let everyone know about it and take measures to make sure that never happens again to Layla or any other dog. She also said that by this point past surgery we're lucky because it probably wouldn't have caused much damage, if any. But we still need to be careful with her, and anyone handling her should have known that.
