Thank you! When we dropped Layla off this morning, her vet was just walking into the building from her car, so she offered to take her in so we wouldn't have to wait. She apologized again, and said she found out who brought her up and it was just some high school volunteers! And she said that they never should have had Layla in their care at all. Nothing like this should have happened. She let everyone know and the issue is being sent to their nursing department to have it dealt with. She said she's making sure it will never happen to another dog again. But I can't stop thinking why did it happen to OUR dog? :( We had no wags yet today. We're going away for the weekend, to my parents' cabin. The last time we were there, Layla was having the time of her life running around in the snow. She loves being out there in the summer too. But now it's making my heart hurt. I know I need to stay positive but it's just incredibly hard. |

Keep doing what all of you have been doing...remember let her recover in her own time. Sending all of you lots of thoughts and prayers. |
OMGosh! This is terrible, but again, only a bump in the road. Try to be positive, like the Reiki woman said, right? Layla will enjoy being at the cabin even if she can't run around yet, and here's why - she gets to be with YOU! As far as what happened, if it ever happens again that a tech needs to be called to bring Layla back to you, be firm (not rude, just firm) that Layla is NOT to be walked, she must be carried, and if you know the names of the techs who have been involved in Layla's care in the past, request one of them bring her. The hospital should be happy to comply with your request. TONS of happy thoughts and prayers to you, Layla and Scott. Enjoy your time at the cabin and know that Layla will, too. |

We are taking Layla's stroller so she will be outside with us if the weather is nice! :) Just got a call from her vet, and she did very well today... still not as strong as Monday, but really good. She got a lot of movement on the exercise ball, and that's where she always seems to be the strongest. She was also put in a cart for a little while and ran around for a good 5 minutes and tired herself out! The vet said she really seemed to enjoy being able to speed around! They followed her and helped her out a little with turning and stuff while she had her wheels. Then she walked on the treadmill for another 5 minutes. The vet also mentioned a couple of lumps, which we noticed before she went down and meant to have them checked out. We did mention them to our small town vet but she said they're probably just cysts that all dogs get. Well, the college vet seemed a little more concerned and wants us to have them checked, so we'll have them done one day when she's there for rehab. |
awwwww Linz! I am so sorry to hear about the drama with vet Techs..... thats just awful!! I am very glad to hear about her tail wags and stuff though!! What GREAT progress for Layla!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend at your parents house and that Layla does well also! :) |
I just got home and wanted to come here with an exciting update! On Friday night we arrived at the cabin and took Layla in and put her in her crate, brought everything else in, and it was kind of hectic. My mom, of course, was all over Layla and petting her and talking to her, and when I finally got a chance I came towards her and put my hand out to pet her and her tail started going! I was like "She's wagging her tail! She's wagging! She hasn't wagged in days!" and I called to Scott but I couldn't even think of grabbing a camera. All four of us saw it! It lasted for a long time. I was ecstatic telling my parents what it could mean, and saying that I wasn't sure earlier that we would ever see it again! We were ready and armed with a camera for the rest of the night and all of Saturday, but to no avail. There wasn't any more wagging. This morning, Scott got out of bed around 6 or 6:30 to express her bladder. He put her back in her crate beside our bed. I kept waking up periodically and looking at her, and she was awake and would look at me too. Finally I decided to get up, and it was almost like she was waiting... she started shifting weight on her front legs like she always has done when she's excited about something, and she looked so eager in her eyes, and when I bent down to give her a good morning pet, her tail wagged! I was like "You're wagging your tail! Oh my gosh!" and I was fumbling around trying to grab my cell phone and get the camcorder setting on (which takes awhile when I just wake up and don't have my contacts in!) but by the time I got it figured out, she had stopped wagging. I set the phone on top of the crate and pointed it down while recording but I didn't get another wag. But I am so glad we saw two wags this weekend anyway! On Saturday, Scott, my dad, and I went golfing at this little course near our cabin. We noticed a group of people with a dog on a leash and thought, hey, Layla's in a stroller, why can't we bring her? So today, my parents, Scott, Layla, and I all had a golf outing :D Layla's stroller also has perfect storage for snacks lol! So she was our "snacks and drinks" girl. She seemed to really enjoy her time out with us! |
I can just imagine the joy you feel when you see Layla's tail wagging. All of this must be so heartbreaking for you, but when she responds to you like that, your heart must be filled with such love and joy. I wish your emotions didn't have to be like a roller coaster ride. I know how that feels. Just know that so many of us care and are pulling for you, Scott, and Layla. Layla is one lucky little girl, but you are too, because you have her to love. |
