How's Layla doing? I noticed Linz isn't posting as often as you used to. We that are praying for you guys miss the updates. I understand you found support on other sites. But Please don't forget us YT's that are praying for you three. Hugs :aimeeyork |
Sorry! I'm trying to keep up! Layla showed even more progress yesterday by being able to hold her weight for a couple of seconds, but her right side would always go down. Last night, Scott leaned her right side against her crate, and she stood with pressure on her left leg for around 5 seconds! I'm so proud of her! She is back at the college today for therapy, so I'm hoping her vet will take note of these improvements as well and hopefully we can see her when we pick up Layla tonight :) She still doesn't feel anything down her back, and has no deep pain sensation, but even regular touches now will get a response in her feet and legs. She will kick or pull back, which is a reflex still, but we don't need to squeeze or pinch to get the reflex anymore. |
Our fingers are crossed that you get good news from the vet tonight. Layla is so lucky to have you and Scott. |
Thank you! And we feel that WE'RE lucky to have HER! :) |
Layla saw her therapist today who has been gone on holidays for two weeks. She didn't seem hopeful before, and she still doesn't. She said she's doing really well and she's done so much better since she last saw her, but that everything is still just a reflex :( It broke my heart to hear that. I asked "Even standing? Isn't that proof that a message is getting from her brain to her legs?" and she said no... until there's proof that she knows what's going on, it can still just be a reflex of her legs stiffening. :(:(:( She's not standing up on her own, and that would be an indication. |
I've been following your Layla thread and it occurs to me that you usually sound down after you talk to that particular therapist. Not that you want someone filling you with false hope; but you don't always need to hear the negative either. Maybe you should find a new therapist? |
Lindsey thanks for the update. I know you're busy. I for one really appreciate it when you can get here to update us all. I agree with ringo, you don't want false hope but seems like the therapist could say SOMETHING positive. YOU live with Layla, YOURE with her most of the time, I think that you're gonna see improvement before anyone else. Hang in there! Your precious little girl is worth all the time effort prayers and praise! I applaud your efforts! I hope you Scott and Layla have a great weekend! I will continue to pray for you all. |
So glad to hear she's doing so much better! Hang in there! |
Im so happy that you Layla is doing better! ive read from beginning to end of all your updates and i think its so great simply miraculous that your dog has been able to make it through this and is doing much better now. I will pray that one day she will be able to fully use her legs as she did at one point, i am hopeful that she will! |
Lindsey, We can see the improvement in Layla and that is all that matters. The vet felt more tone and I think there is something there to be hopeful for, especially, since you are seeing small things starting to happen. If we don't have hope, then we don't have anything. Sending special prayers that little Miss Layla continues to show us improvement. |
Layla had a terrible time at acupuncture this morning. She was yelping through the whole car ride, and completely restless at the vet. She was moving around so much she was popping the needles right out of her back, head, shoulders, and leg. We were there for longer than usual, almost twice the amount of time, but I felt like we got nothing out of it. The vet even put lavender around her face to try to calm her down but it didn't do a thing. I was just happy to get out of there and get home so she could rest again. |
Hmmmm.... maybe feeling pain from the needles going in? Sad to hear though... hopefully she's just having a bad day... How is she at home now? |
She's fine now, resting in her crate. She seems a little sad and won't eat her food though :( I was invited to our neighbor's house today, finally meeting people since we moved! She was having a clothing party and I thought since we've been here a month now and haven't met anyone, I might as well go and meet some people from the town. So I had Layla in her crate at home by herself for a few hours. Maybe she's sad that I left her :( We haven't been apart for more than an hour since she came home from her surgery. Scott is out of town for the weekend so she's really making me feel guilty! I would like to say I hope she perks up soon, but it's best for her back if she stays laying as she is. After we both finish eating I'll take her upstairs with me so we can watch a movie together or something. Oh yeah, I've also been so nice to her that when I am preparing food and accidentally drop something on the floor, I will pick it up and take it to her because I know she wishes she could be right under me to get it! |

I don't know much about acupucture but maybe her wiggles will be a sign she's getting well. |
The vet doing the acupuncture said maybe she's starting to get some feeling back, but she also doesn't seem to know much about Layla's condition so it's hard to know what to believe. I don't think she's worked with many paralyzed animals before. I have stopped doing water therapy at home for now until I find out from other IVDD dog owners if it's safe to be doing it so soon. Most say STRICT crate rest is needed, but her surgeon has been doing water therapy with her. I'm holding off at home for now and just doing her regular exercises. |
