| Looking for advice on sick dog (vomiting) Hello everyone and thanks in advance to anyone that might help me. Our dog Jake is almost 2yrs old, since about a week or two he has started eating grass here and there mostly in our yard (no chemicals). Two nights ago he started licking around the house, and shortly after threw up. Seemed ok after, but last night same thing happend again, but he would keep hieving through the night. He has been totally out of it all day not eating, so we took him to the vet. Now they could tell he want well and gave him fluid shoots and something to calm stomach. They said if he did not get better in a few hours to take him to overnight stay at animal hospital. It is now 7pm and he is still not active, the thing is that he tends to get tiered after big days or anything straining. For mostly the reason of not wanting to leave him over night in and also financial reasons, I would like to see how he is doing tomorrow morning. Do you guys think there is a risk he will die if not getting checked out thoroughly tonight? Aloha /Andy |

| If he continues to vomit, I would be concerned! Lift his upper lip and touch his gum lightly. If it is wet, he is hydrated....if it is sticky to touch, then that is a sign he is dehydrated and needs to go to the vet for fluids. I hope he has a good night. Keep us posted!

| Did the vet advise you not to feed him for a period of time? Usually when they are that sick, they hold back food for 24 hours. Then, give them something bland and light when they do start eating again.

| We went through something like this just a couple of weeks ago with Tucker he was not wanting to eat and was throwing up and just not himself so we were at the vet a couple of times and the last time the wanted to keep him for a couple of days because he was getting dehydrated and loosing weight. They kept him and put him on IV's and gave him antibiotics thinking he could have a mild case of pancreatitis even though his blood work all came back good. He was there for two and a half days and they sent me home with some food that they said he ate a little of in which I could'nt get him to eat but now he is doing great and has gained his weight back so I would really try to get him to the vet if you can. Good luck to you and your baby. It isn't any fun when they are sick. |

| When they feel ill, they do not eat. Just make sure he drinks water. Check his gums frequently and get him in if he shows any signs of dehydration. Hopefully, he is feeling better today.

| I guess I will update again, as thing are not all well. So after getting better and better as Sunday went along, he finally ate a bit of food. And Today (Mon), he ate some more and was back to normal self. Since he had not pooped for very long I really wanted him to as to me that would confirm that there was no object stuck in intestines. Lunch time i walked him and he did what he was supposed to, it was pretty normal but not very firm due to special food from vet. Now during the afternoon all I gave him was 1/3 of a milk bone. Since about 1h after he pooped he started having diarrhea with a bit of blood and slime(?). It has happened a few times through out the night but not excessive. Vet said as long as it is not combined with lethargy or vomiting he is ok, but the blood makes me nervous. |
