| Ripped Dew Claw! Hi, my vet is closed now till the morning, and ive found Marnie in 3 legs! ... for a few seconds so knew something was wrong with her paw. Then she is running round like eveything is ok! Looked at her fron paw and have seen that the dew claw is hanging off by the nail! Wat do u suggest i do to comfort her till we go in the vet tomorrow morning? Can i use TCP on dogs? Many thanks for an urgent reply. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm so sorry to read this, I know we've read of this happening before and bleeding is a real problem. I think putting pressure on the wound will stop the bleeding. I think I would wrap it up, maybe she didn't rip it too bad. I don't know what TCP is. I know many people would like the laws changed in the states regarding dewclaws, but tearing seems to be such a common thing. Hope someone else can give you better advice, best of luck!

| I would probably clean it with peroxide and then wrap it with gauze. I have never had it happen late in the day, thank goodness. Those things hurt.

| Don't know much about these things....Just know that they are a pain in the backside. These things get infected! It should be clipped off....or....if you cannot do that, then wrap it and let the vet do it. Do not let him run with it hanging because he will catch it on something and rip it.

| Dew Claw Hi all.. thanks for the replies! Ive given Marnie a nice bath, she is all dry and had a good brush, and sprayed some Aloe Vera on the paw with the dew claw - was trying to wrap it with gauze and tape but she wont let me go near it! and she went for me, and thats the 2 nd time in her life, and she is 6 years old,she has tried to bite me, so i know its really sore for her. So im going to leave it and take her to vet as soon as he is open in the morning. There is not blood, it hasnt bled and i hope it doesnt . ill keep her nice and quite in her bed til the morning though she is walking around ok and seems ok. |
