Now don't freak out on me, but when I worked for a snake breeder (very high dollar reptiles) occassionally one would develope an illness that antibiotics couldn't help. After many trials using different meds that didn't clear the infection, samples would be sent to a lab in California where they would be analyzed and a special medicinal cocktail would be made to treat that specific disease in that specific animal, and would always effectively eliminate the illness. They tested results in the lab, eliminating the need to stress the animal through multiple medical trials. It takes almost 2 months or more to get the medication and begin treatment, and at the time cost around $200.00 to have done. Don't know if this is an option for dogs... I don't see why not. I had to laugh, on the news tonight they did coverage on a young person suffering from Chrone's disease. He opted to go to Mexico, where he was intentionally infected with Hookworms, at a cost of $2500.00. Claims to be effective against asthma, allergies, and other chronic autoimmune diseases. Worm Therapy: Helminth-Induced Immune Modulation They said people's bodies were originally designed to deal with these problems, and that the worms give off an enzyme that prevents disease from manifesting. As we see less incidence of these parasites, we are seeing increased incidences of children with allergies, asthma and the like. Then they went on to say that smokers have a 44% less chance of developing Parkinson's than non-smokers.

My SIL had a Dobie that was allergic to everything. Almost constant vomiting and diarrhea. I couldn't begin to tell you how much she spent on this dog at the vets. After 2-3 years of trying different things, she had the dog PTS bc there was no food it could eat without reacting. This happened almost 20 years ago and nowadays there are more medical options than were available to her at that time. But I did recently see an episode of Dogtown, where a woman had a pup in Pennsylvania with similar allergies. She ended up sending the pup to Dogtown, where the dog's symptoms miraculously disappeared. They chalked it up to the allergies being environmental, and the physical change in environment which occurred when the dog was shipped to them in the desert or close to it, I believe, is what helped the dog. The poor owner had no money left to spend on treatment, hence her decision to send her to Dogtown to be treated and rehomed. I remember you were thinking of moving you mentioned in another thread a while back... maybe this would be an option for you and DeeDee... or do a trial vacation in an area with different conditions than where you live now, and see if she shows improvement. Do you have a room in your home you could set up for her with air cleaners/hepa filters, dehumidifiers/humidifier, uva/uvb light source, ionizers... etc? You've probably already done this... I really can not think of anything else to try to help your little one. I have hope the desensitization may work. That may be the way to go on this as keeping her on steroids isn't a good thing at all. Keeping you both in my prayers... she's such a beautiful pup...give her a hug from us!

DD blood work has been great but she is adimant she does not want dd on steroids daily she said it is not safe unless i am prepared to have more probs and a shorter life then go for it but honestly i just want her comfortable so i will see how it goes with blood work and staph gone and go from there as atopica is not an option - I am very scared to do hyposensitization shots for if she gets worse i will LOSE it | |
