I added Transfer Factor three years ago and have been thrilled with the results. If you are familiar with the book Scared Poopless, the author aka Chicklet recommends colostrum, too. Each dog is very unique and Dee Dee certainly has her share of health issues like Lady. What works for Lady might not be appropriate for Dee Dee. I am fortunate to have "Team Lady", our vets and specialists who share information and are also open to holistic treatments in combination with traditional medicine. I hope you and "Team Dee Dee" can come up with a course of treatment. I know how upsetting chronic staph infections can be.

i have that book and not all the way through it may have to dive in further as it is real good. Jami emailed me today and she recommended the colostrum as well so i am going to have to give that one a shot but want to start the coconut oil first as like to do one thing at a time and take notes - are you using coconut oil? I started pilling her with cod to get some omega 3 in her as well but have not really noticed much of a difference after about a week and a half no decrease in itching ;( so sad i know she was inbred as vet saw it on her papers - got her from backyard breeder - just makes me mad as i try so hard and no real cure for this allergy stuff just a constant balancing act here is a pic of her hair on coconut oil on left and on right is when the nightmare began at 6 mos she was such an adorable puppy but come 6 mos all heck broke loose

| I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here on this thread for your help today as i feel much better prepared for my appt tomorrow with derm and so happy to be a part of a group with nice people like you all that care about each others babies. It is so hard when our babies are sick and we feel alone and nice to know there are others out there that care and can understand what we go through when having a tough time |

Read the links on Transfer Factor I sent you. I have been amazed at the results in Lady. As you say, it's a balancing act. I have found the little things, like allergies or digestive issues, can be more difficult to treat than the biggies like diabetes and epilepsy.

yeah it is so wild you say that as the pancreatitis was a nightmare but at least there is an end but with the allergies it seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel just one speed bump after another i had a title rep come in today who has an allergy daughter and an allergy maltese and she was almost in tears and she brought me a pic of her dog and he has staph I feel so bad for her as her daughter is on breathing treatments and asthmatic and she said between the two of them she is ready to lose her mind she is feeding primal raw limited ingredient and her malt has chronic ear infections so i referred her to derm as she keeps going on 15 days antibiotics but that is not enough time. Derm told me it is 7 days after i see the last lesion for antibiotics. We made it 5 weeks after stopping the antibiotic as checked the calendar and stopped the antibiotic on 2/1 so maybe another round will kill it for good i hope. I am glad you said that about the small things as i feel the same way and we see so many dogs come on here with allergies it breaks my heart for them as i cannot help but think get ready for the roller coaster ride Last edited by dwerten; 03-10-2010 at 08:07 PM.

I bought coconut chips as treats for my pups (in search of plant protein treats for LS protein restricted diet), the LS pup loves them, as do the others. I've also been adding the coconut oil to their food for the past 2 months, with no ill effects to date. Dwerten: Some say there's no diff between generic and brand name, and I know your DD prefers tabs, but if you used generics in the past, maybe try the brandname this time to see if you get better results? Also, maybe your vet has liquid in stock? Clindamycin: Oral Antibiotic For Dogs & Cats - 1800PetMeds Antirobe Aquadrops: Antibiotic for Dogs & Cats - 1800PetMeds

I certainly wasn't implying it was bad, just that it seemed to be the new thing to try.

The derm called in the tabs but they will take 4-7 days to get them so I will start liquid tonight. She definitely has staph again and that is why she is rubbing her vulva too as she checked that area under the slide but no yeast present and she said dogs do not tend to get yeast in their bladder so she doubted it could be yeast anyway. She said dd has had significant hairloss which i noted as well and i thought it was from staph but she thinks her thyroid is acting up and her meds may need to be increased so she wants me to have her blood work done after being on clinda for 2 weeks so her infection does not mess up the blood work and wants her full thyroid panel done as well which dd is due for so we will be going to dr dodds in two weeks for our semi annual blood work. She wants to see dd back in 3 weeks once meds are done and blood work back to discuss. She said the temarilp will not work if she is itching from staph though so that could be why she is more itchy and she said she is seeing a huge amount of dogs with horrible flair ups in past two weeks so why dd is probably more itchy as due to the amount of rain we have had she thinks this allergy season is going to be horrible - GREAT she was adimant she wants dd on every other day for steroids as every day is not safe and will diminish her health although she has some dogs about 5 on every day due to owners not caring and wanting quality of short life and i said yeah that would be me lollll so she wants me to clear the staph first as she thinks that is why dd is itching so much more and then we can evaluate the increase to 3/4 every other day if i do not see change when staph is over. I asked about staph lysate injections she said nope bc that is only used when nothing else works and they cannot figure out leading cause of it and she would prefer me doing hyposensitization shots prior to doing staph shots. I asked about colostrom and she was not on board as she said that is used in first few weeks after puppy is born but she did not feel body absorbed in intestines appropriately to help but i am going to research that more she was not on board with coconut oil really but i saw a difference so going back to that for sure now I asked about cushings due to hairloss and she said NOPE as dogs with cushings produce more cortisol and the allergy symptoms stop so she would be doing better not worse she said dd is getting worse bc she is getting older and allergy dogs get worse as they age sadly she said i know you are against hyposensitization with dd but i want you to rethink this for her as it is safer than steroids and meds She only trusts three labs VARL being number one and cannot remember the other two so because we used biomedical and full spectrum 400 each she said they are worthless and if i do shots i will have to do blood work through VARL lab as she does not like to do skin testing in small dogs as you have to shave both sides of them and dd would have to be off steroids for 4 weeks and there is no way that is happening as she will be a mess. I am going to see if anyone has had success on here as i have always heard allergy shots can make them worse BUT there is a lady that is on my allergy group that goes to my dermatologist who swears by them and her dog is doing much better - so scared to try anything anymore as it always turns out to be worse any thoughts

| oh she also did a demodex scrape just to be sure she has no demodex on her skin as she said no way she has scabies but demodex is a possibility so she scraped her down until she bled a little my poor baby and i prayed real hard no demodex as those meds are STRONG and she came back with no demodex thank God as my friend has been trying to kill this for 5 years in her yorkie and had a horrible time of it |
