| Looking for help for new mama with diarrea My 3 yr old had pups 2 weeks ago Friday. She has had diarrea ever since. The vet gave her Flagyl, I've tried pumpkin, vitamins, rolaids, ricotta cheese and Imodium. We do have a re-check on Wed. This is her first litter and I know shes stressed and she doesn't handle it well and at this point, me either! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

| My Bonnie had her pups on 2-13 and hasn't had a firm stool since. A lot of that is attributable to the volume and type of food (more canned food and meat, less kibble) she's eating. It's also just simple mechanics. They eat a large amount in order to be able to feed their babies. When something goes in....something comes out. It takes a while to form a good stool and their systems just don't have time to process it before they eat again. I'm feeding Bonnie about 6 times a day so there's a lot of poop, and it's all unformed. What I'm describing is typical in new Moms, but is not uncontrolled diarrhea. I am giving Bonnie a probiotic (Proviable) to aid in her digestion. If this is sounds like your girl, it may not be such a problem but I would be concerned if it is uncontrolled diarrhea.

| I have had 3 in the past to stress after a week or so after giving birth, one dose of metronidazole has taken care of it every time

| Thank all of you for your input, i really appreciate it! She's just used to being able to be free and with the pups and diarrhea, she's having to be more confined. Her stools are just very loose, brown texture. I did'nt give much cheese, someone had told me maybe she needed more calcium so suggested a dose of ricotta. I'm going to try softening her dry food, which she does well with and see if it helps. |

| I always give my Moms a calcium supplement. It aids in milk production and will help prevent eclampsia. I'm using a tablet that is good for a 20 pound (non-lactating) dog. Bonnie is just a little over 5 pounds so I give her 1/2 tablet twice a day with a meal. They need the extra due to nursing. She is feeding a litter of 6 and has had plenty of milk and no issues other than loose stools. Best of luck.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Remember she is also diapering the babies, I give my whelping girls a tube of benebac the day after whelping, also the calcium tabs are a must give to prevent eclamsia, also I prefer whelping pudding, I give them just a bit of cottage cheese with breakfast and don't forget the scramble egg a day for protein. my vet said that a loose stool is normal for diapering moms, watery diarreah is not. hugs, Carmen in nj |

| Thank You! Just an update on Henna, I took her to the vet and after running tests, the vet concluded it's STRESS! So she gave her special W/D food, probiotics and metronidazole along with a shot of centrine. Everyday she's getting a little better, needless to say I'm sleeping on the covered couch with her and I didn't get any meds!! LOL |
