glad to hear that you may need to mix wet with dry that might help

More and more this sounds like it is simply a problem of him gulping and swallowing air.

i would continue to feed him just the way you did tonight. If the Brake Fast bowl is not slowing him down, just feed him small bits at a time. Hopefully, this might solve the problem

i tried that the other day and he didnt even attempt to chew the dry parts! i really am starting to think he has a problem with chewing/eating and i dont know if you can even fix that when he has been doin it wrong his whole life. even when i give him the new kibble by itself its ONE crunch and then nothing..so he only bites into it once then swallow..this kibble is way smaller/flatter so maybe its OK but goodness he needs to learn how to eat! lol
good feeding this morning as well btw doing same thing

however i left him in the bathroom so spice could finish her food and he scratched the hell out of himself and lost a bunch of chunks of hair!! and that problem had seemed to be over recently, or at least i havent noticed it as much in the last few weeks. i only notice him scratching around his harness..and sometimes at his mouth after eating wet food (but he gets some on his beard). he does roll around like a psycho a lot in his beds also..so i dunno if thats scratching or playing..again though my vet saw no signs of skin problems at last visit

Could this be an allergy to his harness? Or maybe just an irritation to the flea treatment i gave him sat nite? I gave him a bath sunday around noon, and it was Mon morn with the scratching hair out of his harness area. I still dont see obvious spots of missing hair AT ALL though. I tried to inspect him, but he was in play mode and wasnt very cooperative. lol

On a good note, he seems in better spirits lately he plays a lot more and its TOO CUTE!!! his tiny tail wagging in the air is adorable beyond words.

i found a suggestion on yahoo that said to put his food in a muffin tin! i may actually try that one. his meal is pretty small anyway b.c he is, so that may be perfect to put a tiny bit in every other muffin slot or something. I'll update after i try it..lol i dont expect much, and it is weird, but maybe it'll get him in the habit of eating slower. I am doing VERY well with the method im doing now thou..but when hes on Strictly kibble again (if possible) it would take forever to do it the way i am now, which is holding the dish for him and only letting him take one or two pieces at a time, then kinda pulling it away until he chews (praising him of course) and then letting him have another bite.

I think im stressin less about all of this now (hopefully i feel that way next time he pukes)..watchin him be happy and play with spice makes it worth it. They even sleep in the same bed at night voluntarily, even though they have separate beds in the cage too cute

that is how mine eat too on crunch then swalllow so pretty normal. When they cleaned the teeth did the do xrays to make sure no absess tooth or anything as just cleaning you will not see if there is a problem below the gum line - just a shot in the dark on that

i dont think they did xrays for his face. They did ones for everything else, but they just told me he had receding gums or something that caused the roots to show which couldve been painful to him (which is why they took them out.) Im glad the one chew is normal though hes done so well with the way im doing it now, so we'll see when hes on all kibble. but i am just gonna try to recondition him to understand to eat one or 2 pieces at a time like my pom does. It may take quite a long time, but i think after a while he may start getting the point. Plus im doing the small meal on my lunch now too, which i think really is helping him stay full better and slowing him down a little. Plus now that im pretty sure its probably not food allergy related, i can give him a treat every now and then, like those ones for his teeth..and maybe that'll fill him up a little so hes not starving for dinner.

what problems u mean that xray couldve found? what would that cause?

Those treats for his teeth.....I hope you are not referring to Greenies. If so, I would strongly advise you not use those. They had a history of causing blockages and they say the formula is different now, but I do not trust them.

Be very careful. If they are edible and can break off, a piece could end up lodged in his GI tract. I think you have enough going on now. Those kinds of treats always scare me. I have yet to find a dental treat that I feel is safe.

well i had these teeny tiny rawhide bones that i gave him and my pom. Spice takes FOREVER on them, but loves them. Timmy worried me b/c he ate all of his in a day and thats when i started worrying about things bein caught somewhere. They both love them, but it worried me. I def need to keep their teeth healthy though w him havin gum disease already. Maybe ill just buy some oversized rawhides i know will take them forever to chew. lol

when they put mine out for dental they do full mouth xrays and that is the only way they know if they have abssesses as that is at the roots and no way they can see in a normal cleaning and abssesses are very painful. I cannot believe they did a dental cleaning and put him under anesthesia and did not do xrays? that does not sound right to me especially if he said he has gum disease ? My friends dog had no loose teeth and when they did xray her dog had 7 abssess teeth. He was not eating - i would just call vet and ask if he did mouth xrays while under for teeth cleaning as they usually do that

nothing replaces brushing teeth so get chlorhexedine pet dental wipes from www.drsfosterandsmith.com as that is what dentist use to keep bacteria down in mouth when they do dentals and a non-anesthetic dental cleaner told me this is what she uses as well

Rawhide is just as bad or worse! Rawhide can cause choking or blockages. Lots of people use bully sticks, but I personally don't like them either. Brushing their teeth is actually the best thing to do.

ok ill look into the wipey things..its just IMPOSSIBLE to get him to hold still for it cuz he doesnt like ppl touchin his mouth and hes so squirmy.
maybe they did xray i have no idea, if its a normal thing they prob did and thats prob why cleaning are so expensive. my bill from that day does have x ray listed like 3-4 times (2 different places on bill) so maybe one was for teeth and the rest were for barium.
