i tried putting a ball in his dish to make him eat slower and i take it away every few sec or so and he still throws up, then i give him more and so on and so forth...he still eats way faster than my pom but i dont know.

are you feeding wet or kibble?

if the next food change does not work then ask vet about tylan powder as it is used for ibd is a very low dose antibiotic with an anti-inflammatory agent to help with inflammation in intestines but it is very bitter tasting so would prefer if you can get ok with just food

if he is throwing up during meal i think the salmon may be too rich for him and it is a fatty fish too :(

ya i may end up switchin him back to eukanuba..at least then it was manageable. It all seems to have gotten worse with the salmon. he pukes more, and his poo is softer and stinkier...maybe he just hadn't gotten used to the eukanuba since he was only on it for a week or 2 before i switched him. i think i'll call the vet and ask about ibd

my ibd dog eats fast too but he does not throw up

oh and i feed him kibble...i tried soaking the eukanuba one time and he still threw up in the middle of eating it

yeah and you may want to try ultra z/d from vet until he gets settled in as that is a hydrolized protein diet where the protein is broken down - not cheap but if it works and he gets settled in you may have to do this -- my ibd dog is on purina ha it is a hydrolized soy diet and the only thing that kept him from vomitting so you may want to try that too but only comes in dry - i would not put back on eukaneuba as that was making him vomit too and not good for them to vomit all the time and also can trigger the pancreas if he has ibd in small intestines which sounds like he has and my dog almost died of pancreatitis as small intestines is right near pancreas so I really would encourage you to talk to vet explain what is going on and do ultra z/d or purina ha or en

ok then you need to get him on ultra z/d or purina ha or purina EN I just do not want this to progress to pancreatitis and sounds like this is happening alot and vomitting up stuff can mess up the esophagus with stomach acids so he may need some sulcrulfate which is pepto without the aspirin. Call vet today and discuss this as i do not think this is stress colitis as he would have diarrhea as that starts as diarrhea then progresses to vomitting. Can you call rescue to see what they were feeding and if this was going on with them too?

pepcid ac, sulcrulfate, tylan powder are things used with ibd but ultimately it is getting the right diet. This should not be happening with each meal :(

You are not doing anything wrong! Something is going on with him, but it is not because of you!

Those bowls that Cindy suggested DO slow the fast eaters down! I have had success with the Brake Fast bowl.

you could also try hand feeding him a few kibbles at a time and see what happens just to see reaction that way - always good to take good notes of what you are doing too and fax to vet so you may want to do this before calling him so he can see the pattern of what is going on

is there any coffee ground looking spots in vomit as that is a sign of ulcers as those spots are blood

I called vet and he's gonna do an xray today. he seems to think it may be a piece of bone or somethin floating in his stomach that makes him full really fast or something. and if not he's gonna test him and try to find out if its megaesophagus or something else. WISH ME LUCK AND TIMMY LUCK!! i really dont want it to be something that makes feeding him miserable forever!

nope, no spots in it. thank god. lets just hope the vet finds something easy to fix. hes such a great dog other than this problem. poor baby

Fingers crossed.....will be looking for an update. I do hope it is something simple!! :)

vet couldnt find any obvious obstructions anywhere in his system and his esophagus looks normal. so good news, but no reason for the throwing up..so for the next couple days i have to try giving him 5 pieces at a time at an elevated angle and see how it goes, if he keeps it down i will increase it to a 1/8 cup at end of wkend and see. If that works then hes just eating too fast without chewing...he also said that since he needs his teeth cleaned, and prob never has had them cleaned, maybe they hurt a bit when he chews and it makes him just gulf his food down rather than chewing properly.

thanks for all the advice! i appreciate the help and ill keep everyone updated

Glad you went to the vet so you can rule that out....Good point about the elevated food dish..he also could be gulping his food because of the situation he came from..Maybe not enough food and to many other dogs...

Great news! And, yes, their teeth can cause lots of issues. I am sure he will feel better when they are clean! :)

doubt it is teeth as my maltese had loose teeth and 27 extractions and never vomitted food :(
