Since all the tests he put her through came back normal. The only thing he saw was her throat looked a bit irritated....so, the possibility existed that she had maybe, while outside, ingested a small twig and irritated her throat....causing her to vomit......

ok thanks the only prob is mine are in the house mostly on wee wee pads due to hawks, owls and coyotes ;( and she has no interest in toys, or anything by mouth - now dex he would pick something up but her never - she is a rescue so never had toys as a pup so she is my only pup that really does not play with them. She had one she liked but it was a rubber fish and it deteriorated so badly we got rid of it a long time ago :( It is all so odd - last night it seemed she drank too much water but wed we do not believe it was after drinking water. I guess we will find out tonight as it always happens at night about 2-3 hrs after eating.

Wow. I haven't been around lately, and just read this thread from the beginning. Seschna, you poor thing. All this uncertainty would have driven me 'round the bend quite a while ago. :(

It is totally amazing your vet did no blood work, IMO. I can hardly believe that...seriously. How can he know what's going on inside with no blood work?

Beyond that, the only nugget of advice I have is to try putting the kibble in a blender...this solves any problem with chunks your pup might have. Then you can wet it or mix it with canned or whatever.

I had a megaesophagus Yorkie, years ago. She was diagnosed at Angel Memorial in Boston, which is a very big deal here in Mass. They did some kind of test which showed the passage of food in motion through her body. Anyway, I kept her going for several years by feeding her, then picking her up (as you would a baby) and patting her back until the food went down. There would be a bulge in her throat until that happened...and then you could hear it move. :) She would usually rest with her chin up on something to stretch her throat and help things (like water) go down. How I loved that little girl...

Doesn't sound like your boy has that...but, maybe you could try burping him after meals, as I did with my Josie? Maybe get the air out before everything comes up? Think of it as a bonding experience... :D

i do kindof, i give him a little, then wait til he burps b4 giving him any more..and so on, until hes done..seems to work:) We did the barium, which is where you can see the stuff going thru the digestive system like you mentioned and all was well. I have no idea why my vet didnt take bloodwork but im kinda annoyed b/c apparently HE SHOULD HAVE. so if i have another episode with timmy ill probably make sure thats the next thing my vet does

TIMMY IS NOW 5.5 lbs!!:) that means he gained his weight back and a little extra now that his feeding is under control..SO PROUD of my baby boy..not sure how big is really supposed to be b/c i dont know how long his eating problems were going on. He was 5 exactly the day i got him from rescue, 4.7 when i took him to vet for tests, and now a healthy 5.5 YAY

so far so good but it took 3 days before for incident to happen. I called vet to make her aware and she did not seem too concerned thinking possible gulping of water so i hope she is right - we are nervous for it to happen again though :( we removed chicken from diet and only giving her kibble to see how this week goes. I want to remove any variables and go real basic for now

ya everyone always says they drink water too fast! timmy does, and he hacks for a sec after but thats it thank god..althou tonite he has been hackin randomly throughout the night for no apparent reason. Havent noticed it in bout 1/2 hour so maybe hes done. lol i do feel bad sometimes like i am spending so much time babying timmy b/c he has special needs, and i feel like spice is very jealous and feels left out. i dont know how you make sure they all feel equal love:confused: i obviously cant feed spice ONE at a time, like i do for him..and i hope i dont have to for him forever. And he always interrupts when im tryin to love on her by herself. Maybe im just thinkin this and feelin guilty for no reason lol  i know she loves him cuz they play like CRAZY and sleep together or near each other by choice...which is adorable btw but how do you do it? i know you have special needs ones and non special needs ones

Is it even possible for timmy to have worms again?! i saw something in his poopy today that to me looked like worms, but i dont think they looked like the ones i saw last time. None were moving even with my attempt to make them. I saw like 3-4 and they were short and fat. I was wondering if this is possible since i have dewormed him like 3 times since i got him, once from the vet himself, and he is on interceptor now. (he has had 2 doses so far, but the last dose he threw up a tiny bit few hours later so not sure if it came up at all) Im not sure whether to worry bc i gave him a new treat yesterday that is a yogurt bite that looks like a white chocolate chip to me. Could it just be little strips of that coming out??? Should i deworm him AGAIN!??

it is funny as dd is real close to dh i am chopped liver to her lol unless he is not in the room, dex is a total mamas boy and demi is either or as to whoever pets her more. I do notice that dee dee goes after demi when she is sick but neither do that to dee dee or dex. They all have their funny personalities and keep us on our toes. They are all loving dogs so we feel blessed. It is tough with the health issues though although dex is managed dd is my worst one it is always something with her and demi has been very healthy so still hoping it is an upset tummy from bad chicken :(

i am starting to think he really does have worms:( i looked up tapeworms and it says they get it from ingesting fleas/lice...he has not been around fleas, BUT those nasty ducks that are nesting around our apartment make me think they could have lice, he licked ground, and WHAM..worms! I hope not, cuz theres nothin we can do about the ducks except call animal control and i dont like the idea of them being killed.

how about using washable wee wee pads that is what we do but not sure if that is convenient for you if it costs to wash your items :(

that would be a great idea, but timmy doesnt know what they are..he doesnt even care about them at all...and i dont wanna do that if the ducks are gonna be around ALL SUMMER! they were last year. i think i may have no choice but to call animal control:( i hate the idea but my dogs safety is the most important and these ducks could have all kinds of diseases

seschna 03-31-2010 09:02 AM

called vet and decided to deworm timmy again. the vet tech said if it is tapeworms he may have already had it and it sometimes takes more than one treatment to get them all. So may end up deworming spice as well. but the good news is we caught it, hes not losing weight, and we should have this fixed once again in a couple days:) bad news is i still need to get rid of these damn ducks! the tech said he could have def gotten them from eating lice off the ground from the ducks..ICK!

seschna 04-01-2010 05:15 PM

gave them their pills, and OF COURSE timmy threw up 3 times with that meal, including the pill itself..so now i have to give him another one. Im just gonna feed him first, and THEN when i know that his food is holding well and what not, i will give the pill in a treat again..thats THE ONLY way i could get either of them to eat it was to put it physically into a treat. lets hope 2nd times a charm cuz if not then ill have to pay for more pills when i already paid for these!

seschna 04-01-2010 07:09 PM

finally got the dewormer pill in timmy! he threw up AGAIN! and all he had was the pill and the treat that it was shoved in..dunno why the throw up but i let him eat most of it to make sure he got the meds. I HOPE IT TOOK! i think it probably did. Theres a followup treatment for 2 wks from now...so anything we miss should get fixed then but as much as this poor boy has been dewormed in the last few months HE BETTER NOT get them again. We'll see i guess. Sometimes i do get a little worried again about his throwing up..he doesnt do it when i feed him slow with pauses for burps..but i thought we were making progress with his chewing each piece, and that i wouldnt have to do this feeding FOREVER, but when things like today happen, it makes me wonder/worry once again if i will ever be able to feed him like a normal dog..or if he has something we need to find out about.
i am going to look into stress colitis, though i dont think this is the reason for throwing up..cuz he is terrified of everything, and i dont know if he'll get over it. I mean, he sees a leaf or pinecone, and cowers away scared..like hes NEVER seen any of these simple items..is he going to get over this? or does he need some anxiety meds? cuz he jumps/cowers every time ANY noise happens, if i cross my legs he jumps..and pretty much any other random thing scares him.
