anyone have an opinion on blue buffalo basics with turkey and potatoes? i bought royal canin again, b/c i need him to be on it at least a month to make sure theres no improvement before switching, but i am considering Blue Basics for my next try. It is supposed to be ONLY basic things, so that should eliminate the allergy definitely! Then i can start adding things to see what the allergen was i guess, or just stick to it forever if it is good and gives him all he needs (not sure bout that). But i read several reviews and some ppl HATE it and some ppl LOVE it, so im on the fence. Also one thing ppl complained about were these tiny black pieces in it that were supposed to be antioxidants or something that ppl say their dogs WONT eat at all, and they feel like they're wastin money b.c of this. Any opinions out there?! i will keep blending his royal canin for now, then toward the end of this new bag i will start the dry again and see if he still throws up, if he does, its clearly not working and i will switch again. i DEFINITELY will pay more attn to the ingredients next time, now that i feel im an expert! lol Timmy needs JUST BASICS so we can see if it really is an allergic reaction to something in the food. Blue does not use corn, wheat, eggs, dairy products, or byproducts, so it sounds like a good start b/c i think tim may be allergic to corn. If its not the corn, it may be a fish reaction bc he got WAY worse on the salmon food he was on, and none of the others had fish, but they did have fish oil & meal or salmon oil & meal..so i was thinkin that could be still causing the allergic reaction/? |
once i find a food thats good for timmys problems (if possible), i am hoping to switch Spice to it as well if possible....is there any problems with that? Its just SO HARD to keep them away from each others food...now that i sped up timmys eating with blended food, spice takes forever eating her kibble and i dont wanna lock up timmy cuz hes done. And of course my prissy Spice wont eat if shes locked away somewhere. My next try is DEF Natures Balance with venison and sweet potato for timmy. Does that food give ALL the nutrients they need so i can switch spice too (if it works for timmy first) and keep them on it forever if it works or no?? i know its kindof only basics... |
I haven't read all these posts but had the same problem with Pie before I got him neutered. The vet put him on graduates (Gerbers baby chicken sticks) and Pedigree healthy digestion in a can. Also we bought some nutri-Cal and Pie just loves it. Whenever his stomach is upset I just squeeze some out and he licks it off my finger. I have always stuck with Royal Canine for Yorkies as his dry food. His main diet is boiled chicken legs. I boil them and cut them up really fine. I use to feed him chicken livers and they were simply to strong for his system. Also I think worth noting (if it hasn't already been noted) is that Yorkie's are an extremely sensitive breed and are upset but the smallest of things. It is good for them to be in an envirnoment where they are safe and secure. Best of luck to you and your puppy! |

my baby is def safe and secure:) and he is ADORABLE now that hes coming out of his shell and he seems SO happy. I hate this mess with eating, and the stress, but I LOVE MY BABY and im so glad hes with us and not less understanding people |
gave timmy the baby gerber chicken stix tonite, and im still unsure if hes allergic/intolerant to chicken:( i gave him two whole ones, and he regurgitated a little bit, but managed to keep most of it in his mouth. then i gave him two more mashed up and he was fine with no problems. I didnt think he had a chicken problem, b/c he got worse on the salmon food, which didnt have chicken in it at all. I also bought some baby food corn, so im gonna maybe try that tomorrow and see if he reacts to it. If not, ill prob just keep blendin his food as i have been until the bag is gone and then buy the new stuff i wanna try for him. |
gave timmy a little bit of baby food corn..he licked it once or 2ce then didnt wanna touch it. I coaxed him into eating a little bit more to see if there was a reaction and all he did was lick a few more times, burp loud, then scratch his face once. Then refused to touch it again, so i stopped. I dont know if this is intolerance and he is smart enough to stay away when its pure corn or if corn is just not tasty to him, but the fact that he burped after eating a few licks of it may suggest something in my opinion (bc hes ALWAYS so gassy when he eats and he was DEF not gulping this down so we know its not caused by that this time). I gave spice some too and she ate it right up and seemed to like it, so MAYBE timmy is trying to help me out by not eating it! lol i know, foolish hopes, but corn was my first guess..and now i am still wondering. I fed him his normal meal after, but I feel so bad when he gets done eating and scratches his face constantly. |
Yes, the vet that I used to use told me it was from some disease they get from filth. I'm alittle OCD so I know that wasn't the case. Now I did have a planter that I would put water in and the birds would drink from it. So I thought maybe that was the cause. I really don't know. I stopped using this vet as they weren't much help to me. I now take Pie to a vet that has been practicing for over 40 years and they are so wonderful. They have a ranch and treat all animals. Pie got sick just before I had him nuetered. The doctor kept him over night and when he came home he had a small cut in is neck with stiches. I think maybe they inserted a tube in him there for hydration. The vet spent the night there at the clinic with Pie. I would be more than happy to share the name and number of my vet if you would like. Seems there is more than allergies with your pup. I know you love your puppy. Anybody that owns a Yorkie and doesn't honestly believe they truly are our angels ..... well they just never had a Yorkie. Please keep me posted! |

anyone with experience with allergies, would the dog try to stay away from it if possible? I gave timmy some baby food corn, mixed in with a bit of food and he at all the rest and left the corn. He did end up eating a little of it after i coaxed him a bit (poor baby tried to get the food pieces out and leave the corn) then he literally backed away from it whenever i tried to offer the corn again. Can he be tryin to tell me something or does he just not like taste of corn? lol |
timmy either coughed up flem, or vomited last nite in the bed and ON SPICE! it was only on tip of her tail..and slimy, but i didnt hear him makin any noises last night so i dont know if its a good thing (like when humans can get their flem from a cold out) or a bad thing, b/c he has never done anything like this at nite before when he hadnt eaten recently |
treat from 1800petmeds So you kno that giant treat that comes in the 1800 petmeds box when you order somethin from there? Well i split it in half and gave it to timmy and spice and Timmy ate ALL of his half within 5-10 min and had NO PROBLEMS. It was huge and harder than dog food and yet, he ate it with no burping, scratching, or coughing afterwards! I looked it up and they have all kinds of ingredients in them, some that are same as dog food, so i am baffled. I know its not the consistency of his food thats the problem here, so it HAS to be something in it. I mean, poor baby scratched his face so hard after breakfast yesterday that he started making crying sounds like a baby until i made him stop! it was sad. :( I CANT WAIT TO GET THIS FOOD BAG OVER AND CHANGE HIM TO THE NATURAL BALANCE VENISON/SWEET POTATO!! its very discouraging to have to keep a food for SO LONG when you feel like its not working |
I know this probably doesn't mean much but i fed timmy his mid-day 1/8 cup of food NON BLENDED and he didn't throw up!! this is HUGE improvement. Im not sure why..and i did make him stop every few min to see how his reaction was (and he burped in middle of meal) but he did SO MUCH BETTER than usual. Im so PROUD of my baby, but now im considering buying another bag of royal canin just in case it IS working for him after all. So PROUD of my baby boy today...im gonna try again tonite and see if this really is an improvement |
timmy did well with dinner! I had to help him a bit and make sure he didnt eat TOO much at once, but he did well. He once regurgitated in his mouth i think, and swallowed it and then was fine..other than that he ate his whole meal fine with one burp. IM SO PROUD! im gonna buy ONE more bag of RC to see if he continues to improve before i switch again. I hope he gets better...RC is expensive which sucks, but if he gets better I DONT CARE! itll be great to see him eat like a normal baby should! |
not a good morning..timmy threw up/regurgitated SEVERAL times with breakfast..poor baby:( its looks exactly the same as always, but its not as sticky..i dont know if thats an indication of anythin or not, so i will be calling the vet today to ask. Hes almost out of food so i need to know whether to give up on rc or not! |
Timmy is officially on the natural balance sweet pot and venison as of today. And its been nothing but vomit vomit vomit!!! even blended he throws it up:( but i am hoping that maybe hes clearing all the snot out of his throat and once he gets used to it he will be better...FINGERS AND PAWS CROSSED! if this food doesnt work, he definitely has something else going on, b/c this food has NOTHING in it that he has eaten before (which would rule out allergy/intolerance), and the pieces are huge compared to the old stuff, so gulping is DEF not going on... it really depresses me when my baby throws up...i try to comfort him and pet him, but still so sad that he cant control it |
