Checking back in for an update on yr little one. So glad to hear that the Emerg Vet is keeping a watchful eye on him. I'm just horrified that the orig Vet sent him home in that condition. Hoping he is much better this morning!

Good Job Mommie for going with yr instincts & asking for Help, knowing yr baby needed more! And great advice here!

When I took him in his temp was still low and sugar was low again.
He had a shot for his sugar at 7pm, so they said it was very odd
that his sugar was low again. They are keeping him over night
to stabilize him again and monitor him. Since this is the first time
that this has happened then they are pretty sure its a Hypoglycemia seizure.
They recommended that I try feeding him 3 times a day instead of 2. They dont want to put him on any seizure medication because the vet said that he was too young and it is pretty bad for their liver. I will know more information tomorrow.

did they do blood work and you need to get bats done on him asap to test his liver as my concern is liver shunt due to being 8 mos and epilepsy starts usually about age of 3 so doubt this is epilepsy - Hypoglycemia and liver shunt go hand in hand and signs of liver shunt are seizures and usually start before one year old I hope this is not the case but you need to rule this out since this breed is 38% more likely to have liver issues and now you have a seizure symptom

at 6 mos i highly doubt this was hypoglycemia as that happens in smaller dogs not 6lbs they can go a while without eating at that size

also most vets are not real up on liver shunt and mvd so please pursue this testing to rule this out

hoping they kept him to do bile acids this morning as well

I'm glad you got your pup some help. I was actually thinking the same thing. I thought 8 months was pretty old for a strictly hypoglycemic episode. Especially because after sugar shots it didn't improve. I know most pups are out of the water around 3 months of age.

I agree. This is something we have seen in a few Biewers...with more of a leaning towards MVD.

hoping mvd but my dog has mvd and no seizures also meant to say 6lb highly unlikely just hypoglycemic

I picked him up this morning and he seems
to be doing A LOT better! Last night he
couldn't even stand still because he was
wobbling around. They basically said that
everything was normal with the exception
of sugar and temp. His sugar level and temp
are now back to normal. thank goodness!
I think I will take him to my usual vet to
perform more exams to make sure he isn't
suffering from MVD or any other disorder.
I also thought that hypoglycemia usually
happened on smaller dogs...but he weighs
like 6.5lbs. I am going to let him rest today
because I am sure he is exhausted from
yesterday. He isn't really eating his food
today, so i boiled him some chicken and
he scarfed that down Thank you everyone
for your support! I am jotting down a list
of questions for my vet...if you think of anything
please let me know.
