Help, i may have an emergency HI EVERYONE I have a 6lb 8 month old male Biewer. He is usually a very active dog, all day he was fine up until about 5pm (4 hours ago) I came home and he was fine. I didnt see him for about 10 minutes so I went around looking for him. I found him on my bed covered in drool. I thought this was very strange but I didnt know what was going on. I started to clean him up because he was full of drool. As I was cleaning him up he passed out in my hands! I freaked out, and rushed him to the hospital. When he arrived they checked him into the emergency. They gave him a bunch of shots to stabilize him. The vet came and explained to me that his temperature was very low and his sugar level was low as well. He went on and explained that my baby just had a seizure!!!! The vet I took him to closes at 7pm and does not offer over night care. He recommended that I put him on a heating pad and monitor him. Well, I just arrived home and his temperature has already dropped 2 degrees since I was at the vet. He is currently at 96. Does anyone have a similar experience? Or can anyone provide any advice? I have never had a dog that has had a seizure. |
Did they give you anything to bring his sugar levels up, or investigate why he had a seizure? I am by no means a expert, but if it were me I would try to find an vet that was open right now and get there ASAP. A puppy can die from low blood sugar if not treated. The seizure could be a result of the low blood sugar, or something else. I would want to find out what is going on. If you have a ER Vet in your area I'd try them. Good luck with your baby. |
I don't have any advice other than seek care at an ER vet if you have one nearby. I am sending prayers and hugs for your little one.:hands: |
They said that they didnt know if it was due to low sugar levels or hereditary. They told me to rub honey on his gums to bring his sugar level up. I have been doing everything I was instructed, I am very nervous and scared for my baby :( |

due to age and size i doubt this was low blood sugar :( has your baby been eating regularly? Did they at least run blood work? Did your dog get into anything toxic? |
I'm hoping others who might have experienced something like this will chime in to comfort yr fears. Sending thoughts & prayers for yr baby to pull through this. HUGS! I know it's scary! |
Thanks for the prayers. I will google the closest ER and take him there ASAP. |
