| Acting strange - Backing up in circles and sitting Rio has been acting strange since yesterday afternoon where she shakes as if she's scared and then backs up in circles, sits down for a few seconds, then gets up and backs up in circles and sits down again. She also had diarrhea last night but ate nothing new or different. After the diarrhea, I gave her some canned pure pumpkin. She has been eating and drinking. Throughout the night she has not acted like herself, just jumping off the bed and doing her little backward circles. Have any of you experienced this with your furbaby? I'm really worried and will probably take her to her vet as soon as the office opens in 4 hours. |

| I hope she will be okay, I don`t know what could be wrong, but hopefully you`ll get some answers from more experienced yorkie owners. Wishing everything goes well at the vet. Hugs to Rio.

| Thanks Darlene and Bailey! Now Rio's thrown up, so we called the emergency vet clinic - they said to bring her in right away since small dogs can dehydrate very easily. Our normal vet doesn't open for another 3 hours, so off we go. Will update you later! |

I've noticed mine when uncomfortable (or constipated) will act like they're confused and sit up and down alot - but no shaking - that would bother me oh rats - just saw your post after I submitted mine - The vet sounds great to tell you to get her in - better to be safe than sorry and I hope it's just an upset tummy ! Edited AGAIN - Is she otherwise acting ok ? I don't know how big she is - but The ER Vet can be very pricy and if you can see your normal vet - make that judgement call - Have you tried nutrical ? and maybe trying to get her to drink ?

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Have you checked her rear for diarrhea remnants or a "cling on"? All of mine act like this if there is poop stuck on their butt.

| thank you everyone! Thanks so much for your well wishes and advice. Just brought Rio home after TWO vet visits. First we went to the emergency vet clinic where they did a few XRays and blood work to rule out foreign body obstruction. The XRays seemed okay but there was one area that was "questionable." Rio got a shot for the nausea and we were told to bring her home and feed her a "bland" diet of rice and chicken. We got home but after Rio had a short nap, she woke up and was shaking even WORSE and seemed in even more pain. By now her normal vet clinic was open, so we brought her there. Her vet said she was concerned about the "questionable" area in her abdomen, especially since she reacted in pain when she was palpated in her upper abdomen. They decided to keep Rio for a few hours to do a barium test (sort of like a CT scan where she had to drink barium to coat her intestinal tract to show if there was any blockage). Thank goodness it all turned out clear. No blockage, just irritated bowel/gastroenteritis. We were given a liquid antibiotic/tummy medication and more bland diet instructions. Rio is resting now and we will give her first dose of meds and her first teaspoon of bland food in about an hour. We were given her XRays to take with us in case we needed to go back to the emergency clinic before Monday. Thanks again everyone! We are out SEVERAL hundred dollars, but our 3 lb bundle of joy is worth every penny. Phew! |
