Did the vet tell you that she should have surgery for the collapsed trachea? If they did and you can't afford it please let us know. There are people on here that can help your dog get the help she needs. Do you know what caused the fluid around around her heart?

| That surgery is not very successful, especially on older dogs. My guess is that this is an older pup since there is such heart involvement already. There are two surgeries...one is extremely invasive. Then, they have the one that is done by endoscope, but the rings they put in are not made to last. I would never put a pup through either surgery. Not until it is perfected. There are many ways to manage them without surgery. Most important is keeping the weight down, limiting exercise and excitement, and keeping them cool. Hopefully with the medicine, which I am guessing is Lasix, the heart will have less of a load and maybe she will do a little better. There is a lot of information on the web if you google collapsed trachea. One thing I would strongly suggest is to ask the vet about using Lomotil. I don't it mentioned a lot on the web and it really helps some of these pups. I had a pup with a collapsed trachea for almost a year. Once we put him on that, he got a lot of relief. Tell your mom that if the vet has not heard of using it, to look in his Pet Therapy book on how to treat Collapsed Trachea.

there was a girl on one of our yahoo groups that put her dog through this surgery and the stent collapsed and her dog died. There are not alot of successes with this surgery so i would not put my dog through it knowing the success rate is not high | |
