There are many ways to manage them without surgery.
Most important is keeping the weight down, limiting exercise and excitement, and keeping them cool.
Hopefully with the medicine, which I am guessing is Lasix, the heart will have less of a load and maybe she will do a little better.
There is a lot of information on the web if you google collapsed trachea.
One thing I would strongly suggest is to ask the vet about using Lomotil. I don't it mentioned a lot on the web and it really helps some of these pups. I had a pup with a collapsed trachea for almost a year. Once we put him on that, he got a lot of relief. Tell your mom that if the vet has not heard of using it, to look in his Pet Therapy book on how to treat Collapsed Trachea. |
I agree i would never do that surgery
there is a group on yahoogroups.com do the search collapsed trachea and join
there was a girl on one of our yahoo groups that put her dog through this surgery and the stent collapsed and her dog died. There are not alot of successes with this surgery so i would not put my dog through it knowing the success rate is not high
