My poor Melody

Melody is 9 months old and Lilly is 4 months, they are from different parents. Melody is so much smaller so everyone is shocked when I tell them Melody is older.

Lilly weighed 3.8 lbs yesterday. And Melody 2.6 lbs.

The walking and bloating you are talking about is from the Liver Shunt. The toxins are being released into her blood stream instead of going through her liver. When her body doesn't expell the waste (toxins) her belly bloats. I may not be explaining correctly, but she needs to have something that will help her move the protien through her body quickly, or to make her poop more often. The medications may actually do this. I hope someone else can give better info on this.

Not really sure about the food you are feeding her

Liver Shunt babies do best on either Dry Food: Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hepatic LS 14 OR Wet Food: Hills l/d

She should be eating approx. 6 small meals a day. So say she should be eating 50 kibbles, you need to break that up to about 8 or 9 pieces every 3 or 4 hours.

Feeding her the wrong food and too much food over works her liver and that when the toxins build up in her system and makes her to all those "weird" things. It's like posion, those toxins go straight to her brain and cause pain, confusion, kinda like being "wasted drunk" - not a good feeling.....

Poor puppy. I hope she gets to see a specialist soon.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time, this is so sad, you have gotten already good advice here, I have a Melody (she is my small one) too so when I saw this it just broke my heart, will pray for your situation, maybe a door will open for you

This Poor Baby needs to be at UT. Please get her help. At this point sounds like she needs more than meds.

What did you contact your vet and tell him the Meds that Kathleen perscribed to Melody may not be working , is that what caused her her bloated belly???
From the sounds of this you dont work so you are able to stay home with her all day or do you have to leave her unattended ???

I am hoping your puppy is doing well and that Kathleen is setting up surgery ASAP because from what I have read about LS puppies often times changing food and meds dont work??

Please understand what is happening to your Melody. She is not doing well and needs to be in the Hospital preparing for Shunt Surgery. Sounds like her Liver is shuting down. Understand what that bloating means. I know this is hard but please turn her over to YHR or YTNR, they can get her help now. Not just meds.

We do not have a foster home that can take her; but I have offered to help her get Melody into a rescue.

I am sure that YTNR would take Melody. If they had been contacted when this first started, Melody would have already been to UT by now and being worked up.
