Injured leg or back injury??? A few weeks ago I noticed our 6 year old yorkie having issues with a back leg. I could hear it when he walked (you could tell one leg wasnt right) and also noticed he had a hard time supporting himself when he would go potty. I originally thought it was a knee issue and that it would fix itself.. which it has in the past.. but no suck luck. He is now at the point where he is very skiddish and is very careful when walking or turning around. He sleeps alot and has lost his pep. Sometimes he just stands and stares into space. I took him to the vet this weekend.. and in her opinion he has a back injury. He received a shot of Metacam, and had an oral dose today.. but he is not any better. Has anyone every experienced problems like this??? Please Help!! Thanks

did she do a digital xray? I would take your dog to an orthopedic and have digital xray done and i prefer tramadol to metacam or any other nsaids. I would go asap so you can find out what is going on. If it is a torn acl i would rest for 2 mos as i did with mine and she was fine as the scar tissue builds up and acts like a tendon. My concern is AAI which is a spinal type issue that runs in this breed so if it were me i would either see a neurologist or orthopedic asap

no x rays have been done. I forsee another trip to the vet this week so I will inquire. the vet suggested trying a steroid if the metacam didnt work. Could your vet tell that your yorkie had a leg injury prior to the x-ray??

no xray is the first step as my girl hurt her leg and that was the first thing i had the vet do was an xray before any meds. They need to know if it is a break and rule that out first
