Sorry it cut everything off. What could be causing clear vomiting? Last weekend Cooper started throwing up clear but some white foamy looking vomit, called the vet they said just a bug and watch him. Gave him pedilite, and then was better, but then last Friday night started throwing up a lot same clear/white foamy. Took him to the ER vet and did an xray which showed NO blockage, labs looked fine but had some mild dehydration. They gave him IV fluids and an anti nausea shot. They had us give him pepcid and boiled chicken and rice for 24 hours. By Sunday he was back to his old self and has been fine all week long.....well here it is Friday night and he has just vomited 3 times and it is clear flemy looking vomit.

There is no yellow/bile in it, just clear flemy looking. He asks fine, bringing his ball wanting to play. What could cause this clear thick throw up? His stools have been firmer this week then normal but NO loose stools no blood at all.

I believe that my 5 year old Nala started vomiting the same clear liquid as you have described. She did this throughout the night. The following morning still vomiting, she had diarrhea too. We took her to our regular Vet who kept her for a few hours, ran some blood tests and gave her IV fluids. They ruled out Pancreatitis which was what we were immediately concerned about b/c my 8 year old had just had an attack 2 weeks earlier. They believed she was just suffering from a bad intestinal bug and she was sent home with the fluid patch under her skin to prevent dehydration and they told me to give her pedialite and boiled chicken and rice. She has always had a sensitive stomach but something just didn't seem right but we took her home....
When we got home she was still vomiting and now it looked like blood. We could tell that she was getting sicker by the moment. We called the vet and she told us to bring her back but we were also told that if she had to stay we would have to move her that evening to the 24 emergency hospital. So disgusted with the chain of care up to this point we took her directly to the 24 vet. After extensive testing ruling out everything it could possibly be, they believed she was in an Addison's crisis (which we never knew she had). The plan was to treat her as if she had the disease and hope she would respond, apparently the test results take some time to come back. By the next morning it was apparent that she was not going to rebound from this episode and we had to make the decision to end her suffering. In a matter of 26 + hours my poor baby was gone.
I have had yorkies for almost 30 years and had never experienced anything like this. I thought maybe sharing Nala's story may possibly help save someone else.

DebbieD-Thank you so much for sharing the information. My heart breaks for you in losing Nala. I appreciate the info on Addison's, I had never heard of this before and just looked it up and one of the notes regarding food states "It has been alleged that ethoxyquin has caused cancer; liver, kidney and thyroid dysfunctions"......So even scarrier to think some of the high quality foods I had given him could have caused something bad in his body.

I will watch him closely and when we go back to the vet have them look at his labs more closely for this. Today he seems fine, and no throwing up it is just so odd how it seems to come and go. Thanks again!

I am so very sorry to hear about Nala my heart goes out to you, I know the pain of losing one, and so do many many others on YT. Was it definately Addison's she had, or is that what was thought to be the reason.

I hope things are easier for you than they were. It is so hard isn't it. But your story may well help others, as you say it may help save someone else, as they can now ask their vet to rule out Addison's.

Thank you for sharing this.

this could be due to empty stomach which can lead to upset stomach and gastritis; my dog had similar thing; was vomiting many times until she started vomiitng blood; i had to rush her to the ER twice within the past 2 years. last episode was this past august; they said it was hemoraging gastritis; she stayed there for 2 days on IV and drugs; and when i brought her home she ate boiled chicken and rice; and gerber baby food for 2 weeks; and then i switch her to the honest kitchen which is human grade dehydrated raw food; and i add probiotic and digestive enzymes; she has been great ever since; gastritis can progress very quickly and can lead to dehydration and possibly death. good luck

Clear/foamy vomit usually means bile..which could be from many different things I suppose- but in our case, it usually means Moose has an empty stomach. What time of day in relation to when he is eating could be a clue that it has to do with empty stomach. Moose would mostly do it early in the morning, before he had eaten anything. Sometimes it's hard to get them to eat after they vomit the clear/foamy liquid so I usually feed boiled chicken and rice to get his tummy ok again. Of course a vet can tell you best but hope this helps!

at 4 or 5pm you can give a small snack; slice of apple and carrot; and later dinner around 8 or 9pm will be best to avoid emptying of the stomach. or u can give dinner at 630pm and then a small snack around 9pm; try it and see if this makes a difference. it's best not to go more than 7 or 8hrs without food. good luck

ok no harm in trying; also you can place a pad and if she needs to go she can; however after a while she will change her habbit; my dog eats dinner around 830pm and goes on the pad around 7am; and then 2 more times throughout the day. hope she will get better soon.

I agree, a potty pad would be a great solution. This is what Moose has, he can get up during the night and use his potty pad if he needs to. Push back dinner as late as you can and make sure she eats right when she wakes up to avoid an empty tummy.
