| Need advice!! I am not sure what to do, I think that Maggie May may have swallowed a piece of bully stick and got it stuck. She was yelping for about a minute. When I tried to pick her she she yelped and wanted to just stand still. She was able to drink some water and she seems okay now. She actually started to run and play again. What should I do? She's settled down on my desk at the moment and seems fine. Should I be concerned? She's not yelped or anything like that since she drank her water. Is there anything that I should be looking for, keeping an eye on? Any advice would be appreciated.

| thanks, she seems to be okay and back to herself. I've picked her up a couple of times since and she didn't yelp or make any kind of noises. We normally thow out the small pieces but every once in a while, I will find a stray one that they've hidden somewhere.

| I don't know anything about swallowing the bully sticks but I do know that my little male eats EVERYTHING that he is not supposed to. I have had to take him to the Emergency Clinic and the regular vet just for this. He did have bloody stools and had vomited. On both occasions they insisted on doing xrays to see if there was an obstruction - which there was not. My daughter is a fourth year med student and although she knows nothing about veterinary medicine, she has told me that she thought both times if he was sick enought to have "torn" his intestines or had an intestinal block that he would not be running around playing like normal....I wish I had listened to her - $600.00 later, both times they told me he was fine! They thought he had just irritated his intestinal tract. I'm not sure about your baby, because I don't know how big the piece was...but I bet you will see it again. I hope she is OK. |

I know what you mean, we have to trick Bella's attention to something else to take hers away.

| Just reading this -- glad to see Maggie May is OK! I would think that if it's not bothering her anymore that she ended up swallowing it and is fine. It probably was caught in a weird position in her throat or something that caused her to react like that. I remember when Jackson was a puppy and he had a rawhide bone that he found from my mom's dog that was all soggy and mushy and he swallowed it and it got stuck in his throat, I was sooo scared, but he kept trying and finally swallowed the thing.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If it's an actual bully stick and not a raw hide or greenie, she'll be fine. While a bully stick can get lodged in the throat, and cause difficulty breathing, they don't cause intestinal obstruction like other chewing sticks because they are 100% digestible, other sticks are 95 or 99% digestible, but small pieces are not digestible, and this can lead to obstruction. Signs of obstruction are constipation with vomiting, and medical care should be sought ASAP.

Well she's doing well. She'd fallen asleep on my desk so I just let her sleep for a little while and when I decided it would be okay to go to bed, I put them both in their pen and they both just curled up. Well, about 2:00 I heard both of them barking. Maggie only barked once or twice and Hot Rod kept on so of course I freaked and went to see what was going on. They were both jumping up and down in their pen! She was obviously feeling a whole lot better. They finally wound down about 3:30 am It was a very long day to say the least. lol But she's doing well and all that I can do is wait and watch to see if she has any type of issues with pooing. We're watching to see if she has any kind of discomfort. I really appreciate you checking on her. Thanks!

She's pooed today so, so far all is well. I start to relax a little after tomorrow. I think that if anything is going to happen it will in the first 36 to 48 hours. Thanks for checking in on her!
