Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would highly recommend seeing a Vet Dermatologist. Also, just something to think about - if a dog has mites, they are sometimes more active in the evening, so I'd look into mites. They can be quite difficult to diagnose - so that's why I'd also recommend a Vet Derm. Has a flea allergy been ruled out? What did they test for? So she is itching mostly by tail and on legs? What are you feeding and have you changed food at all? How old is she?

| Many times mites will not show up on a skin scraping. As the itching is in areas rather than all over and the hair is broken, I would suspect mites. Quick test is to use a treatment of Revolution Heartworm meds instead of your regular stuff. It kills mites and you'll notice an improvement within 24 hours. My Yorkie lost most of his beard and part of his top knot to these little buggers! If you notice improvement, the dose needs to be repeated in 3 weeks. Then you can go to every 4 weeks if you decide to keep him on it. And mine itched mostly at night, enough that he wasn't getting proper sleep. After his first dose of Revolution, he layed down and fell asleep for about a day!

| Really not necessary, unless you have to know. But as i said mites don't always show up when they do a skin scraping, so it may be a waste of money. My vet wouldn't do the scrapings, she said use the Revolution, and if it works, you will know it was mites or fleas (allergy).
