Senior Yorkie Talker | Kati is going in for surgery she is 15 i am scared I had been taking Kati to her vet for the past 3 months and to check and see what was wrong with her.she stsrted treating her for a urinary infection.I asked her if she thought it might be pyometra but she said no. the night befor last she was not doing well and of course my regular vet was closed so i took her to the emergency vet..she said she thought she needed to be spayed right away because it looked like pyometria..So first thing this morning my vet calls me to bring her in @ 7 this morning and i did.Now she wants to do surgery on her on tuesday morning..She said the reason she hesitated befor was because of her age. Now i am scared to death that i am going to lose her during surgery..Please someone give me some support and yor thoughts on this...I just can' loose kati..I am a mess!!!! |

| I've been wondering how your Kati was doing. I didn't realize Kati had never been spayed. Pyometra is a life threatening uterine infection so I guess surgery is the only option. I will keep Kati in my prayers. I know how frightened you must be. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry to hear about Kati. Just make sure they do the pre surgery blood work and I will keep you both in my prayers. I know how scary it is for you. The other thing is when my Cali was diagnosed with mild MVD and spayed during her heat because of a possible obstruction, I had it done at the 24 hour animal hospital by a board certified surgeon. They had more high tech equipment and more experience with surgeries. If you could find one in your area you may feel safer.

Has she has bloodwork done yet? That will tell your vet is she is even a candidate for surgery at her age. | |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i would take her to a board certified surgeon to have the surgery done. I suspected pyometra the whole time. Your regular vet should have spayed her a long time ago, instead of being hesitant about it because of her age. since your regular vet is hesitant about it i wouldnt have it done there. Age is not a disease but since this has been going on so long it becomes more complicated. A board certified surgeon will have all the latest technology and machines to help keep track of her stats during surgery. Plus they have the best trained technicians to monitor anesthesia during surgery and care after surgery. also, if she has a pyo she will need surgery regardless of what her bloodwork says.
