| Sore Vulva Gypsy has been licking her vagina all day. It is a little swolen, irritated looking, and pinker. She is spayed, so she isn't in heat. I assume she has the equialent of vaginits that women get. If she hasn't improved, we are going to the vet on Monday (they are closed--and I didn't think it constituted a trip the emergency room. She is still her normal sleepy self and is still peeing normally and she isn't having any accidents in the house. Has anybody experienced this with their dogs? Is it possible for dogs to get vaginal yeast infections? Any ideas on how to make her more comfy? Kate and Gypsy |

Cool compresses will help. Do you have any triple antibiotic in the house? If so, just apply it and continue cool compresses

She will be three on Sept 1st. She was spayed when she was almost two and a half (this past Jan). Do you mean polysporien triple action? I have that! | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali did that when she had a UTI and some crystals, she was sore from passing the crystals. If the ointment doesn't help then I would take her in. I hope she feels better soon.

| If she starts vomiting and/or feels feaverish take her to the ER. If it's a UTI it can make them very sick very fast. Last edited by lillymae; 07-18-2009 at 10:00 PM. |

YT 500 Club Member | Once when we'd returned from a walk Angel[R.I.P] kept licking her vulva and trying to pee. At first I thought she had an infection but when I took a look she had a grass seed inside- one of those horrible spicky things that normally sticks in their coats- she always had a tendency to jump up while walking grabbing onto my cloths so it must have gone in while doing this. The vet soon removed it and gave her a shot for any infection. Didn't stop her jumping up any though. |

| Well, Miss Gypsy seems to have improved a bit over the weekend, but she is still seeing the vet today at 3:30. However, I am working today, so my Husband is taking her. Thank you so much for all of your help. |

| My husband had they day off--and apparently he was unable to procure a urine sample (which kind of made me laugh because sometimes mom's just know how to do certain things that can't be explained to doggy daddies.. .) So the vet did a swab and a gave her some antibiotics and an anti-inflamatory. It was the same banana flavoured antibiotic that they gave our other yorkie, Prissy, a few months ago when she had a UTI. Prissy LOVED the medicine. Gypsy hates it and runs and hides in the back of her kennel when she sees me coming with the syringe! The best part of yesterday was that Prissy needed her annual check up and shots. So my dear husband got to cart two dogs to the vet. He now has an entirely new appreciation for all the things I do . . . |

I guess I should consider myself lucky, since hubby is in charge of the dogs when I'm away at dog shows..... On a recent trip out of state. I get a call from him telling me that one of my girls is acting wierd, anxious. I asked what if anything that had been done was out of the ordinary. He informed me that he'd bathed Tahlulha and she was chewing her hind quarters and had drawn blood. I told him to put her back in the tub since he'd evidently hadn't rinsed her well. His response was, you don't understand and hung up. A few minutes later he called back and informed me that he was taking her to the vet. When he returned he told me that the Vet told him to fire the groomer. A hundred dollar vet bill that he could have avoided had he listened to me. He learned the hard way, but at least he's not afraid of taking them to the vet.

One time I came home from a trip and found that one of my boys, my 35 cup coffee maker had chewed his tail raw. Hubby had been treating it and didn't know what's wrong.....took Mr Hobbs out side, checked his anal glands, they were full, so I expressed them, end of problem. Hubby said I would have never thought of that....
