Baby girl Princess, of 12 years, is not feeling well. Last night she pooped just fine, but this morning I saw where she threw up 3 times. One of the piles looked like it had small amounts of blood in it. We can't determine what she would eat that is red. What looked to be blood was in spots, not pooled or streaked. All the piles look very similar. They're not actually piles, but a circle of clearish yellow matter. Not the deeper yellow thick stomach bile.

She holds her head down and has her ears laid sort of down and back. Normally her head is high and ears erect. It's obvious she is not feeling well. Earlier this evening she tried to eat grass.... which I think is hard for her because she doesn't have any teeth.(had to be removed via surgery) It mostly looks like she tries to pull the grass, but can't get any. I understand dogs do this to settle their stomach and sometimes throw it up.

We love her very dearly and it kills me to see her under the weather like this. I feel helpless.

If she gets worse, I will take her to the emergency. For now I don't think it's necessary. However, we're keeping a close eye on her and will make the call in a moments notice if the need arises.

Do any of you have suggestions on what "could" be wrong? Just curious.

Anyway...

Can you please give me some ideas on what she could take to soothe her stomach? I'm thinking her mood is due to an upset stomach.

was it dried blood or fresh blood? if dried blood then large intestine and fresh blood small intestinal. She is eating the grass to try to throw up what is in tummy. Have you tried a little chicken and white rice as that is bland and may help her tummy. Sometimes if they throw up alot they can have blood from throwing up - what happened 12-24 hrs prior ? any fatty meals? has she been tossing and turning at all or can she rest peacefully?

with her age has she ever had kidney values off on blood work like high creatinine? Do you do senior check ups every 6 months?

Due to her being a little older I would have the vet check her out is she is still sick tomorrow. My vet told me to give Cali 1/4 of a Pepcid tablet once a day as she has a lot of tummy problems. She weighs 5.5 lbs.

What I meant was there was what looked to be blood in one of the piles of throw up. It was not in her stool. It looked fresh. There's not a lot there that scares me, but any blood gets me worried.

fresh blood in vomit means small intestines probably from throwing up so many times it can happen. If it does not get better i would take in on monday

My neighbior's dog had the same thing it's called whip worms.It's very deadly.The only med you can get is from the vet.If your dog pees where another dog that has whip worms pee's they get it.Also if your dog steps where the dog that has whip worms peed dog licks it's paw she gets it.It will be in the yard for 3 months.There is no treat ment for the yard that i know of.I would take her to the vet ASAp.I am so sorry.Hope she gets better

i am not real familiar with whip worm but blood in vomit can be many things and this dog is a little older so not sure this would be it- not to rule out but just my thinking on this

At her age any kind of stomach issue is not good and she should see the vet ASAP. She could have pancreatitis and that can quickly kill an older dog.

It's about 3:31am here now and here's an update:

Princess threw up quite a bit of water and yellow bile last night. After doing some reading, it was suggested to not feed her for 24hrs. Before reading that, she was fed 1/2 her normal food. I've seen her throw up yellow bile before; the other yorkie has done it too, but not recently.

She just threw up about 1 1/2 tablespoon of light bubbly yellowish bile. Although I hate seeing anything thrown up, her head is up and ears erect.

Princess does her job in her own fenced in yard; no other dogs except her brother. My worries have sub-sided a bit since her mood is better. We'll see how she is doing later this morning.

If she's still throwing up later she needs to see the vet as this does sound like pancreatitis. If it is not addressed in a timely manner she could become diabetic. Look up Pancreatitis, if her symptoms are as you read get her to the vet ASAP.Believe me when I tell you , you don't want to waste time about this. It's better to be safe then sorry.

yes fasting and letting the tummy rest is good water is most important though as they can go without food for 5-7 days but water is a necessity to not get dehydrated. If just bile throwing up then due to tummy empty though so i would try some boiled organic chicken and whit rice in little portions today
