| Please do not blame yourself.. I know it is so easy to do.. he is going to be ok.. and back to himself soon.. Just think you get to pamper him like a wee babie and spoil him even more.. honey it is ok..accidents happen in life.. not only with our beloved yorkies.. If you get down with blaming yourself.. you will not be in shape to care for him and he will feel your stress.. he is going to be ok.. just keep thinking this.. |

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | Poor little guy. I know how you feel. My little Max managed to break his two front legs. Your baby is going to need you to be strong and loving when he gets home. I ended up carrying Max around all the time and he really enjoyed it. He was on pain killers for the first few days but after that he did not seem to be hurting much. Your baby will definitely be wanting lots of attention and cuddling. Give him hugs and kisses from us. And good luck.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Poor Riker! I'm sorry he fell off the bed and fractured his elbow. that looks like a lateral condyle fracture. I've seen a lot of them in little dogs, mainly from falling off couches and beds. I used to work for a vet orthopedic surgeon. He'll probably need a screw and a pin in his elbow to fix it. Then 2 months of recooping with heavy restrictions (aka crate rest 24/7 except for walks and PT). Riker is young so he'll bounce back fast.

| Update on our baby...Riker had his surgery at 2:30 after if elbow was broken in two places. We're heading to PetCo to pick up a small exercise pen and padding and we have the option to either bring him home at 10:00 p.m. or in the morning. We're really not sure on what to do. The surgery went well but because of his size and the fracture, it was quite complicated. The poor little guy *hates* confinement so we figured an exercise pen would be the best. I'm considering getting some puppy diapers too so he doesn't have to get up when he goes to the bathroom. He has to be immobile. This is definitely a learning experience for my boyfriend and I. We feel so guilty for not crate training or confining our babies. Hopefully, other people will learn from our experience. Thanks again will let you know how he is when we get him home.

| Ah, poor little Riker. I'm so glad the surgeon was able to fix his little elbow. Wishing him a speedy recovery. How long does he have to be immobile?

| They said a few weeks. I'm not quite sure what constitutes to exactly how many "few" is to them, but I'll certainly find out more when he's discharged. On the other hand, our little girl Kaia has been incredibly emotional. As soon as his carrier was brought back yesterday evening empty, she just started crying. It's heart breaking. She's been walking around crying all day and she has even vomited her dinner. I'm sure she'll be so excited to see him when he gets home.
