| Abnormally tired 9 week old Hello guys, I apologize if this is no emergency but my wife and I never owned a dog before so we're clueless. We got a close to 9 week old cute female whom has been full of energy for almost a week now (that's how long we had her) She has been eating twice a day except today she only had food around 10am and no more other than some peanut butter in her chewy toy and couple of small treats for pooping outside. The other concern we have is that she seems exceptionally tired and wanting to sleep since 8pm so about 10:30 we just decided to let her do that. Up until today she had ton of energy into our late night play sessions. Should we be concerned about tiredness and the fact she just ate once? Thank you! |

| Thank you We believe this was the issue. Maple syrup and canned dog food brought her energy right back. Wonder why she didn't want her food though. Thanks once again!!! |

| I am wondering who would have sold you such a very, very young puppy? Did you buy from a pet store or local breeder? Puppies need a lot of sleep just like a baby, they sleep the majority of the time. Their is a basic rule that Yorkie puppies need to be kept with their mother at least to 12 and better yet 14 weeks of age. A puppy needs to eat 4 times a day when they are this young. Eventually, you can cut back to 3 times and them at adulthood you can feed twice daily.

| First, congrats on your little arrival. It would have been best if she stayed with her Mom a few more weeks. It just means right now, there will be a little more work for you and your wife to do. I received my pup at 9 weeks and she is fine. My suggestion would be to go to a pet store and purchase your own Nutri-cal to keep on hand. When a pup goes hypoglycemic, it can repeat itself. Young pups sleep a lot. And where that is ok, eating is the most important thing. As long as they are not sleeping due to low sugar. They must eat. Keep a little boiled chicken on hand to add to her food. No skin and just a small amount. That might encourage her to eat more. Just to get her back into a routine. I think at this point I would schedule feed her so you can be sure of her intake of food. If not taken care of quickly, they will go into shock. It shuts down the organs, seizures can occur as well. They are easy to lose. So keep a eagle eye and keep us posted as to how she is doing. And please feel free to come and participate here. You will learn so much by reading here. And we would love to see pictures of your new family member. Good luck Carol and Jemma Last edited by Jemma; 06-17-2009 at 02:40 AM. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and glad to hear she is doing better. I got Cali at 9 weeks and she had hypoglycemic episodes as she was a poor eater. I had to feed her every 3-4 hours in the beginning. Hopefully with more frequent feedings and nutrical when she needs a boost she will do fine.

| This just happened to our little one. We are usually diligent about getting him fed and giving him his nutra-cal. We went away this weekend and lost our nutra-cal. He didn't eat much yesterday, and this morning he was really quite, which is not the norm. We fed him some honey water, and made sure he ate some of his food. A few minutes later he seemed like his old self. His mom was very worried but is not playing with him. |

| My baby Laila Laila is 12 weeks old and woke up very tired today, she actually cried when I picked her up. She has been loving me and kissing me but she doesnt wanna play. I just gave her a piece of chicken and some maple syrup and I am hoping it works...fingers crossed! |
