Senior Yorkie Talker | Thinning tail Hello everyone, Apples tail seems to be losing its hair. I took her to the vet and got vitamins. She eats well and does not seem to be sick what could be causing her to loose her hair?

| How old is Apples? A thin "rat" tail is a classic symptom of hypothyroidism. |

| Take Apple to the Vet as soon as possible. It could be serious. The sooner the better so it can be treated propperly.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom's tail did that but she also lost a lot of fur on the sides of her body. She had Cushing's disease but that usually effects older dogs. Maybe thyroid related. Did the vet give you any ideas of what he /she thought was causing it?

Senior Yorkie Talker | I did take her to the vet last week. He gave her vitamins which I am to give her everyday half a pump until the bottle finishes. I am going to see him again in another week. He never told me what he thought it might be then again the nurse tech took the pup to him since he was doing surgery and could not see me at the time. He food intake is very good she has plenty of fresh water and snacks in between. she does not seem upset or anything she is very energetic and playful. I just hope the hair grows back it looks like a cherry before its ready for picking of course dark in color since it is her tail.

| It won't grow back on it's own if it's a thyroid imbalance. Apples needs to get a thyroid panel done. Lady is hypothyroid and it's very easy to treat. She gets a synthetic thyroid pill twice a day. The pills are very inexpensive, too. Hypothyroidism is usually found in older dogs, but I would definitely get her checked since she's got the classic rat tail. |
