| ![]() It's actually not all that uncommon. If she had a small cut from something before, a fly will use open wounds to lay its larvae in (I work in a hospital and have seen this in people...yup...gross). There are SOME flied that are biting flies which will bite and create and small opening to lay their eggs in. Totally gross, but not unheard of! I was thinking it was an abscess, as I have had all too many experiences with this (my husbands lab, who lives with his parents, had one for a long time and we couldn't get it to heal). Good thing you figured out what it was! Just keep the area VERY clean and keep the hair around it shaved. If hair or dirt gets in there while its closing up, it COULD form an abscess...which isn't fun. Heidi |

| ![]() I could understand more if she lived in a warmer climate but there are no flies in the northern states or Canada this time of year. I wonder if it had been there for quite a while and just now started to develop into a problem. The OPer said it was still cold where she lives. ![]()

Layla should heal up quickly, as I remember Maddie's healed up in no time. I'm so glad you got that taken care of. I would think it would be very bothersome...and probably painful until that creepy thing is removed!
