| Restarting food after spay, neuter, and teeth extraction today Hi Everyone We have just brought Marcie and MoJo home from the vet. They were spayed and neutered, plus Marcie still had some baby teeth that needed to be extracted. They are both sleeping in separate kennels right now. How should we start feeding this evening? They had pain medication just before coming home, so no pain med until tomorrow. Marcie's suture line is clean, MoJo didn't need sutures. Should we just let them decide when they want to eat and drink? Let them sleep...... they were wide awake and responsive at the vet's office so I'm not worried about letting them sleep. They were awake until we let them settle down in their kennels in the living room with the TV on. We have written instructions with us. We just want to know what to expect. Sandy |

| I would feed a small meal tonight. They may be nauseous from the anesthesia. Some that get teeth pulled can do hard food but I'd prefer to give them soft or softened kibble for awhile.

| Thanks for the replies!! The babies had a good evening, slept in both of our laps for long periods, have drank, eaten, and peed and walked around the living room between long naps. They are in their kennels for the night. Again thanks!! Sandy |

| The first time my girl got some of her teeth pulled, the vet did not give any after care instructions. She went in in the morning, had it done at noon, then came home around 3-4pm and went to her food dish of dry kibbles by 6pm and munched away all on her own. A month later, she went in for her 2nd round of dentals with a different vet. We were given strict instructions to put her on softened kibble (since we don't do canned, etc) for 10 days and no chew toys. Keeping the chew toys away from her was the hardest part. We also didn't last 10 days. We tried our best and got to about Day 7 then gave in. She also didn't much care for her softened kibble after the first 2 days so I figured no Orijen (much harder to bite down on and break) but let her have her smaller light and crispy kibbles (Petcurean's now! puppy formula) and she didn't seem to be in pain from that. Each time, I've only given the painkillers for about 2 days and the 2nd vet agreed that should be enough as long as she doesn't seem to be in pain. I did, however, follow through with the antibiotics schedule each time. |
