The first time my girl got some of her teeth pulled, the vet did not give any after care instructions. She went in in the morning, had it done at noon, then came home around 3-4pm and went to her food dish of dry kibbles by 6pm and munched away all on her own.
A month later, she went in for her 2nd round of dentals with a different vet. We were given strict instructions to put her on softened kibble (since we don't do canned, etc) for 10 days and no chew toys. Keeping the chew toys away from her was the hardest part. We also didn't last 10 days. We tried our best and got to about Day 7 then gave in. She also didn't much care for her softened kibble after the first 2 days so I figured no Orijen (much harder to bite down on and break) but let her have her smaller light and crispy kibbles (Petcurean's now! puppy formula) and she didn't seem to be in pain from that. Each time, I've only given the painkillers for about 2 days and the 2nd vet agreed that should be enough as long as she doesn't seem to be in pain. I did, however, follow through with the antibiotics schedule each time. |
