| Does anyone give Benadryl to help... relax their furbaby? I was told to give Prince 1/2 teaspoon before vet visits to help relax him. He's going to the vet today for a follow up and to get his nail clipped.

| I've heard of people doing it and it seems relatively safe. I know when I've given Ellie Benadryl for allergies, it doesn't really do anything to her though. It won't work for all dogs...

I would really consult with your vet before doing this. It goes by certain weight, and how much to give your baby. I have never given liquid benedryl for my dogs, and we only gave liquid form at the vets prior to giving a vaccine to help with reaction, if the dog had a reaction before.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't believe that dogs should be given something unless they are really really anxious. Everything we give has some effect, and a dog that experiences mild anxiety, learns to control this on it's own. By numbing him, he never learns to experience anxiety and learn that it's ok. Traveling on an airplane is different than going to the vet, but I guess it depends just how much anxiety your dog experiences.

My dog would have to be quite anxious before I'd want to drug them with anything. Ellie shakes at the vets office and wiggles like mad most of the time when the vet tries to do anything (like draw blood). I've never given her a thing for it though. We get through it just fine without.

| if you give too much or not the right amount or per body weight or if your dog reacts different (as people do with medications) it can have the opposite affect and make your dog quite hyper. |

| I only give the liquid before and after vacs....or when I've seen them get stung by ants before taking to the vet. If I go on car rides I have one yorkie that throws up every time so I give 1/2 bonine for the car ride but never benedryal. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I give Harry 1/2 a teaspoon before his vaccines, specially rabies, he tends to have a reaction to the vaccines and my vet recomended to give him benadryl before he goes for them. I have a very excited girl she is a silky terrier and I give her calm down before she goes out for a car ride or the groomers. hugs, cArmen in nj |
