I gave him 1/2 teaspoon of banana apple pear baby food mixed with cottage cheese and so far he has not thrown that up. He didn't seem to mind it that much. I've been giving him pedialite with a syringe also. He is just so little I'm not sure how much is enough and what is too much. The vet really didn't tell us that much. Thanks for all your help. |
The size of your pinky nail 4 to 6 times a day....Maybe more times if you see him act shaky or lethargic..... |

he sounds very sick! the fact that he won't eat is not good! that means he isn't getting the nutrients that he needs. and he shouldnt pee that fast after he drinks. and if he vomits like that he may be allergic to the food he is eating. the vet will probably give you a/d soft food from science diet that is a prescription diet but will help his weight and food intake. he wont have to be on it forever but until he is eating normally and is at a healthy weight and everything. not only that, he is in a new environment and is adjusting to life without mom and siblings. he should still be on milk too. puppies should not be taken away from their mothers less than ten weeks old. he maybe nervous and stressed out. he really should see a vet and maybe a trip to see mom and the breeder might not be a horrible idea either. my girl had an adjustment issue when i brought her home but i took her to see mom regularly and had her on a special diet until she was comfortable and not so stressed out. and he def will need ALOT of attention and to be monitored. |
Poor baby..I really hope he can pull through this. You are doing a great job caring for him. I agree that you really need to try to get a good protein based meal in him. Something with some meat in it. You might try watering down some canned food and feeding that through the syringe. Just be careful that he doesn't get it into his airways. Hopefully it's just hypoglycemia because he's so young and not eating and some good meals will get him through this eventually. I hope he'll eat for you soon. I'm also concerned about liver shunt...it is so common with yorkies, and constant hypoglycemia episodes and refusal to eat are some of the symptoms. |
I'm so happy your baby is doing better. Make sure to make him feel safe in his new home. When I got my baby he was 8 weeks old and 2 lbs. For the first few nights he would sleep on my bed rolled into a furball next to my chest. The vet said that he feels my heart beat (reminds him of his mommy) and that keeps him calm. Maybe you can try that so he can adjust quicker :) Please keep us updated !!! |

He got up this morning on his own and walked to his water bowl. He drank quite a bit of water on his own!! No syringe! My husband and I got up every two hours and fed him baby food with cottage cheese through a syringe just 1/4 teaspoon at a time. This seems to have helped. I'll be home today with him and I'm going to try can food in a syringe and see how that goes. He has not vomited since yesterday at the vets! It's been at least 15 hours but, he has has a few loose bowel movements. I hope with me being at home with him today that will help him and he can go back to work with my husband the rest of the week. Thanks again for all of your advise and support! I will keep you posted! |
