So glad Buster found such responsible owners, who can give him so much time and attn. Jacs0517 gave you a great list of knowledge from a breeder - I would keep it handy, memorize. Praying for Buster to improve tonight :hands: |
Thanks for the information, I actually just picked up Maximillion (Max) on the 23rd of January, thank goodness he is doing really good, but I have been struggling with what food and treats to get. So far, I have completely changed his food over to Eukanuba, he still eats cesar puppy in the morning and at night, milk bones for snacks...if you could forward me the list of good and bad that would be great! thanks |
Excellent: Innova, Karma, Wellness Very Good: Solid Gold, Merrick Good: Royal Canin Fair: Eukanuba, Iams Poor: Pedigree, Purina, Medical Maintanence Dead: Any Department Store Brand (Wal-Mart) Good Treats (she also gave me this recipe): Buy some veal liver steaks (I don't do veal, so she said any liver except chicken or pork) Simmer at a low boil for 5 minutes Remove steaks and drain/cool Slice into thin strips - 1 inch wide Place on oven rack and leave in oven overnight at 110 F. When they are done they will be soft and like rubber. Let them cool. Place in a veggie bag (with the holes in it - this is important) and these will keep in fridge for up to 2 months. Break off small pieces of the strips and use as reward only. She also said that you should only give treats for potty training, until he is fully house broken - potty training should take three weeks to ensure success. |

I got off work at 5 pm I put some baby food in a syringe and gave him 1/4 tsp. then some pediatite with a syringe and the nutri cal. He had a really loose bowel movement. He is still very weak and shaky. He appears like he just wants to sleep. I don't know if I need to try to wake him up and give him more pedialite since he went to the bathroom or let him sleep for a couple of hours. I also got some puppy formula with a couple of bottles. I might try that when he wakes up. Do you think that he might take that? Any advise on this? |
Yes, do whatever it takes at this point until he will start eating on his own. It may take two weeks to get him better. Feed him every 2 to 3 hours, even if its puppy milk and you have to force feed. YOU CAN DO THIS.... I know it seems endless but we are all behind you......Give him nutra cal tonight and around 2AM then when he wakes up....We are all fighting for you and YOUR BABY....... |
You both are doing a great job nursing this baby back to health. He is very lucky to have you as parents. |
KEEP HIM WARM. WHERE IS HE SLEEPING? If you are crating him please put a heating pad UNDER his crate. Keeping him warm is just as equally important as the food. Wrap him up when you are holding him...Please keep us updated.... |
Bless you for taking such good care of this little guy. If anyone can get him through this, it sounds like you can. |
He has a warm bed with a flannel sheet and his bed is in front of the fireplace. Can I give him too much Nutri Cal?? I'm giving him pedialite from a syringe. I'm not sure how much is enough. He is so little. |
Im bumping this up. not sure |
By the way. You are doing an AMAZING JOB for this Baby...... |

Food is what he really needs to stabilize his blood sugar. You need to feed him every couple of hours even if you have to force feed him. |
nutri cal My wife is worried that we may give him to much nutri cal . Is that possible? How much should we give him? |
I would focus on getting some food in him. Don't worry about the Nutrical you have already given. It does make the sugar levels go up. He may need some more pedialyte. The food is so important, and if you end up getting some puppy milk - that would help |
