Yes, I've taken three fecal samples to the vet in the last three weeks. I never saw moving worms, but I have been seeing rice like things and yellow sesame seed things. She was tested for round worm, heart worm, whip worm and tape worm - and all three tests came back negative.

I just dunno - her diet is very restricted and her time in the back yard is always supervised by either myself or my husband. I just don't have a clue!!! At least she acts fine.

If you read my most recent reply, I went through the negative test situation. If you see the rice like things/seeds take them in. Pick them up with some clear tape. Anything...

The vet's looking for the eggs in the test and it's possible she's not passing them. I hope this situation clears up.

Isn't technology great, lol. They were looking for microscopic eggs, and you could see the worms with the naked eye. Anyway, I didn't know this about negative tests, so thanks for the update.

LOL technology is wonderful.
I think they were even doubting me seeing the worms. I explained everything to them.

Thing is though, the poop sample I brought in didn't have any worms in it. If it did I would hope they would realize LOL.

So, it's better to take in a sample that has worms on it, or else it might come up negative.

Here's my experience:

1. We saw yellow seed like things and white rice - but no movement. I took in a fecal sample - it came back negative. I talked to the tech and she said they only examine microscopic worms (whip, heart and round worm). Tape worm is examined visually. She didn't notice any in Bailey's sample but gave me one dose of drontal anyway.

2. Two weeks later -I still noticed the same things - so I took in another sample and explained my concerns. The test came back negative - again.

3. I was still concerned, so I called the vet and took in a 3rd sample. The vet examined it and said that there are no signs of worms, but that I'm seeing seeds in her stool.

All this happened within the last month - I still see the "seeds" today. Bailey is 100% supervised (unless shes in her expen) - she's not eating any seeds!!

The only thing I know to do is to take a sample to another vet clinic??

I pay 30 extra and my vet sends it to a lab he says if theres anything they find it even eggs

It wouldn't hurt her to have it anyway. Not sure why they would make you go through multiple stool samples. If it was me I think I would just ask for the meds for tape worm for all your animals. And, ensure there are no fleas as eating fleas can cause tapeworm. They are gross! We keep our babies on a regular deworming schedule...I don't wait to see them.

Sounds like tapeworms and they can come back. If your pup or kitty eats on of the seeds it just starts the cycle again. I treat my cats twice a year. I get OTC Tape Worm meds at the Tractor Supply Store. I think PetSmart and PetCo carry them, too. It only takes one flea carrying the eggs to start the cycle. Even if they don't have fleas, if they get one while outside, go after it when it bites, eat it - voila - tapeworms. Regular dewormer won't kill them. Good luck. They aren't dangerous(the regular ones) unless there are many of them and they go untreated.

What's the name of the OTC meds. I have all the ingredients from the medicine the vet gave me and it seems like only one of them is the one I really need. The other one is for other types of worms... which I doubt she'll get since she gets Interceptor once a month.
